A Note About 5th Grade Registration
Social Emotional Support for Students
In these uncertain times we wanted to make sure to reach out to families. Below you will find a link to resources that the district has put together. We have also included some tips for parents to consider.
Click here to access Social Emotional Recommendations and Resources compiled by the district: Link to district resources
Here are some general tips to keep in mind during these weeks at home with your children:
Pay close attention to your own feelings of stress or anxiety. Practice continued self-care strategies, including eating healthy, getting enough sleep, exercising, and finding time to take breaks. If you find yourself overwhelmed by negative thoughts, find ways to reframe your thinking. Seek out needed mental health support for yourself or loved ones.
Whenever possible, provide consistency in daily routines including meals and bedtimes. While school closures or changes in schedules may be inevitable, consistent routines can help foster a sense of safety.
Provide age-appropriate information and accurate answers about the news while limiting excessive television or social media. Help children assess facts from misinformation and stereotyping related to the disease
Please reach out if you have questions or need support!

AIG Updates from Mrs. Stone
Hello LPES Families!
I hope you are all doing well, have plenty of food and enjoying this close time we have with our families! I have no idea when we will be returning back to school, but I have asked to still stay in contact with you about your academic interests for your student for next school year, 2020- 2021. Please read the following information about our Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) program.
SINGLE SUBJECT ACCELERATION (SSA)
It's that time of year again when we start to think about next school year's academics. Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) is an option to consider for students that have demonstrated a need for advanced curriculum/acceleration of one grade level above their current grade level. This would be for students that have demonstrated Level 4 work throughout this school year and have demonstrated a need for advanced curriculum in multiple learning standards. SSA is offered both in English Language Arts and in Math, but you may only chose one subject to nominate your student. Attached are some links that will helpful to determine if your student would be a good candidate. If you are thinking about the SSA program, please consult your students' classroom teacher for their input. They know your child's academic needs best and would be best to tell you if your child would be a good candidate. If you should have any further questions, please feel free to email our AIG Teacher and SSA Coordinator, Amy Stone at astone@wcpss.net.
SSA Nomination Window is only OPEN for ONE week this year!
Track 1 - February 24th - 28th
Tracks 2, 3 & 4 - March 23rd - 27th (Will be extended.)
SSA Testing Window (Probably will be changed and the new dates will be shared with you as soon as we know.)
Tracks 1 ,2 & 3 - April 13th - 23rd
Track 4 - April 28th - May 8th
Every student tested will be tested on English Language Arts or Math curriculum, of one grade level above their current grade level. Example if your child is currently in 2nd grade, they will be tested on the end of 3rd grade content. Students testing in Math will need to score an 80% or above to be placed into the SSA program for next school year. Students testing in English Language Arts will need to score an 85% or above to be invited to take the written exam where they will need to score a Level 3 to be placed into the SSA program for the next school year. Attached is more helpful information.
Since schools are closed, please email all SSA Nomination Request forms to Amy Stone at astone@wcpss.net
Thank you!
