PTO Positions
Dear Westview Community,
I have enjoyed serving as your PTO President for the past six years. At the end of the school year my youngest graduates! This means we are truly in need of volunteers to join the PTO in leadership positions. We currently have all positions open except President, Secretary and Treasurer. Please read through our descriptions of the various jobs we have available. If you’ve always wanted to do something to help out the school without having to be on campus during the school day, we have opportunities for you! None of these are a large task, individually – but when just three parents are handling all of these alone, it is a lot.
We are looking to fill all of these open positions. If you would like to join us in supporting Westview staff, students, clubs, sports and activities, please read through the attached job descriptions. Then join the Executive Board for our meeting on Wednesday, December 15 , at 6 o’clock PM in the Career Center at Westview, if you would be interested in any of these positions. The General PTO meeting will follow immediately after at 6:30 PM. We always do the meetings back-to-back on the third Wednesday of each month throughout the school year. There are no meetings in December or June.
We expect to vote on adding a Communications Person at this meeting, as multiple people have expressed interest in this job. All other positions are completely open so please come join us, ask questions, get support along the way, and enjoy doing something to help support our school and community!
Warm regards,
Sadie McIntyre

Westview High School PTO
2019-2020 Support Our School Drive
While many students at Westview are involved in sports and activities, well supported by our Westview community, every one of our students needs our support to graduate and succeed in the future. We try not to take away from all of our clubs, sports, and other groups, by hosting car washes, bake sales, or dine out nights; instead we ask that you consider contributing once per school year.
The PTO receives requests from different programs and teachers throughout the year, and we do everything we can to fulfill all of these requests - from graduation mentor program support, to the science department, to the arts. We have helped teachers afford supplies for the classroom and assisted in funding to support field trips. With the end of the calendar year fast approaching, please consider giving today.
Our suggested contribution is $20/student, but please give anything you can - every dollar helps!
We are a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization and your donation may be tax deductible. Please consider making a contribution today! Make checks payable to: "Westview PTO" no amount is too small! Mail to: Westview High School * ATTN: Westview PTO * 4200 NW 185th Ave. * Portland, OR 97229 or Contribute right now online

ACE Mentorship Program for Students in Grades 11 & 12 DUE TODAY
Do you know a junior or senior who is interested in Architecture, Construction or Engineering (ACE)? If so, the ACE Mentor Program might interest them. Students can design a building, learn valuable work skills, and explore careers in architecture, construction and engineering.
ACE is a FREE after-school program for high school juniors and seniors interested in Architecture, Construction and Engineering (ACE). Student teams collaborate on a building design project under the guidance of industry professionals. ACE also offers college scholarships for seniors and summer camp opportunities for juniors.
ACE STUDENTS gain valuable career skills, network with professionals, and explore ACE careers.
ACE MENTORS give back to their community, inspire the next generation, and attract new talent to the industry.
The program runs January – May 2020 and applications are due Friday, November 22, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. Students are placed on a Tuesday or Thursday team with 10-15 students from different high schools and 7-10 mentors from a mix of architecture, construction, and engineering firms. Teams meet 13 times (once a week or once every two weeks) from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Light meals are served at each meeting and supplies are provided. Prior experience and outside homework are not required. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from meetings.
Meetings are held in downtown Portland at ACE mentors’ offices and job sites. Students have the opportunity to visit multiple professional workplaces, learn how to network, and explore career paths within the ACE industry. Teams design a building together, and students present their projects to a large audience at the program finale in May.
ACE will hold an optional Student/Family Information Session on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Merlo Station High School, 1841 SW Merlo Dr., Beaverton.
For more information, visit the ACE Mentor Program website at acementor.org/Portland-or, or refer students to your school’s college and career coordinator/counselor.

The Moth is hosting its annual Main Stage event (all ages!) the next week on Tuesday, December 10 at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. A bit pricier but a fun event, in my opinion. Both events can be seen here.
One Book, One Beaverton
One Book, One Beaverton, Beaverton City Library’s annual community-wide reading event, is back!
We are thrilled to announce that this year’s title is Call Me American by Abdi Nor Iftin, a timely, hopeful memoir about growing up in Somalia amidst civil war and subsequently finding home in the United States.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE (it’s fun and easy!)
Pick up your free copy of Call Me American at Beaverton City Library Main or Murray Scholls Branch starting on November 16th, 2019 (while supplies last). Or, check out a copy from the library.
Read the book! Read it twice! Pass it along to someone else to read!
During the month of January 2020, attend free library programs that explore themes from the book.
Come to a library book discussion.
Discuss the book with friends, family, and your community at large.
Attend an evening with author Abdi Nor Iftin on February 1, 2020.
Feel connected your community!
Tech Thirty Thursday?
Does your student like to make things? Do they have a project coming up? They should consider stopping by the Creative Space in room S216 during lunch for 30 minutes of awesome (AND they could create a self-made BUTTON!). We have loads of supplies available for students to use both for classroom projects, and just to explore. Can’t come during lunch? Have their teacher contact Ms. Schulz to open the space during another class period. There are many open slots. I look forward to seeing you there!
Cultural Pass
Have a library card and a thirst for Adventure? Want to go exploring over the holiday breaks? WCCLS has a Cultural Pass for you! The cultural pass allows you to have a library experience without borders. Check out a Cultural Pass from WCCLS for free admission to the following locations: Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, Gilbert’s House Children’s Museum, Lan Su Chinese Garden, The Oregon Garden, Pittock Mansion, Roce NW Museum of Rocks and Minerals, Washington County Museum, Wings and Waves Waterpark.
Done with Halloween? How about Thanksgiving decorations?
Think about donating it to our Creation Space! Students could use the costumes for movie making. Always warmly accepting donations of crafts and other arts supplies as well.
Want to De-clutter? Send your Used Board Games or Craft Supplies to WHS library
WHS library and Creative Space is accepting donations of board games and/or craft supplies to use on projects with our students. Either/or would be warmly accepted at the WHS library.

Report Cards Are Going Paperless
The Beaverton School District is transitioning to electronic report cards for all students. This upcoming Progress period will be the last time we will be printing and mailing paper progress reports/report cards. The electronic report cards will be accessed through ParentVUE (mobile and desktop). If parents/guardians have not set up their ParentVUE account, they will need to do so by January 2020.
There are resources and guidance on how to set up a ParentVue account. Please view the FAQ for instructions on setting up an account.
There are several benefits to moving to paperless report cards. Families will be able to view grades days after grading days, rather than wait up to two weeks for a report card to come by mail or in their child’s backpack. In addition, moving away from paper is environmentally friendly and cost-effective for the District.
Please encourage parents/guardians to contact their school if they need help setting up or accessing their ParentVUE account or need assistance with a printed copy. We will be sharing more information about this transition in the coming weeks.
