PPES Families,

As we approach the end of the school year, I want to remind you of the importance of leaving toys at home, especially those that resemble a weapon of any kind.

While we understand children enjoy playing with toys, these items are a distraction to the learning environment at school, may become lost or damaged, and, most importantly, can cause unnecessary fear and concern for other students and school staff. Additionally, even the most innocent play can quickly turn dangerous if a toy weapon is mistaken for the real thing.

In the afternoon on Monday, May 1, 2023 it was brought to the attention of a Parley’s Park Elementary staff member that a student had brought a toy gun to school. The student pulled the toy ‘Gel Blaster’ out of their backpack to show other students. The teacher overheard, immediately stepped in, confiscated the toy, and reminded students it is unacceptable to bring a gun or any resemblance of a weapon to school. The incident is under investigation for prohibited behavior outlined in Park City School District’s Safe Schools Policy 10100, including disciplinary action.

I ask that you please ensure that your child’s backpack, pockets, and other personal belongings are free of any toy weapons before they come to school. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and positive learning environment for all Parley’s Park students.

We encourage students and their guardians to immediately report any safety concerns to a school administrator, School Resource Officer, school counselor, teacher, or any employee regardless of the interpretation of the threat.

The PPES Arts Festival is right around the corner - May 24th from 4:30-7:00pm!

Don't forget to bring a water bottle, a chair or blanket, and be ready for Don Rafa's tacos, Shaka Shake Bowls, and Cece's Sweet Treats!

ParkChella is a car show with live music that will be held on May 13th from 11 am to 3 pm. It will take place in the high school's West Lot (Senior lot). There will also be games and food trucks. Anyone can attend this event. People can scan the QR code on the flyer to get a ticket or to register a car.

Ms Tarmina and Ms Shane's third grade students released their Rainbow Trout at Deer Valley Ponds 2023. The students had fun learning about the trout life cycle as they hatched and cared for their fish throughout the winter and spring.

It is that time of year when we start collecting information for the students to return to school for the 2023-24 school year. Beginning in March 2023, the PCSD has sent out an email with the instructions and the “Online Returning Student Registration and Snapcodes”. This year it is not necessary to submit proof of residence unless you have moved and need to update your student’s information with the new address, then you will be required to provide three documents for the proof of residence.

As you can see, this information for our school is extremely important, we take a great deal of time and effort to place your child in the appropriate classroom for the upcoming school year.

Running with Education is on May 20th and proceeds from this race go to the Park City Education Foundation. Parley's Park ES' Running with Education PCM Grant numbers as of 4/18/23 are 98/441 = 22.22% Way to go Parley's parents and kids! If we have the highest participation rate among the schools, Parley's can win a grant that goes directly to our school. Please register if you haven't already.

Remember running the race isn't just a fun day for you, your kids, and your friends, it's a way to support our school! Schools that win typically have over 40% participation! So please spread the word. Running with Ed is happening whether Mother Nature cooperates or not!! :)

Parley's will have our kids race again from the Junction to our school on the day of the race. More info to come.
