A message from Dr. McClard
Spring is almost here! Activities outside of school will start to increase and in a blink of an eye, summer will arrive. We have several items to think about as we head into the final three months of school. Our annual BINGO FUNdraiser is April 2nd at 4PM (doors open at 3). This is an event that is fun for all. Bring the whole family for BINGO, auctions, and cakewalks! Proceeds go to the PTO to help pay for May 20th Play Day games, shirts, and lunch for students.
Parent/Teacher conferences should be scheduled for March 10th and March 15th, along with 5th grade transition night March 23rd (see below event).
As we are beginning to look forward, it is important to note that summer school enrollment should be coming out soon. Make sure to sign up! Students entering kindergarten-4th grade will have an opportunity to learn and play with friends during the month of June at North Elementary…and it is FREE! Speaking of incoming students, if you or someone you know has a student entering kindergarten next year, please make sure to enroll him/her. Simply call the office for your next steps to enroll (243-9590). Having the most accurate count for kindergarten helps us properly staff for next year.
We also have several other fun activities coming up such as field trips, talent show, and awards ceremonies. However, our primary goal is to ensure that your child has the foundations to be successful at the next level. Please make sure that students get a good night’s rest and are at school by 7:50AM. Typically, teachers have their reading slotted for the first subject taught, so we don’t want our students to miss it. Towards the end of the year, our third and fourth graders will participate in the annual state test to demonstrate their mastery of Missouri state standards. More information on this will be coming soon.
We are looking forward to making the most of March through May. Our school wants every day to be a success for our students. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or myself if you have any concerns or questions. We are looking forward to seeing all of you for a fun night of BINGO on April 2nd!
The Read-A-Thon has officially begun and runs through March 11th. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to encourage our students to read more as well as earn some money for our school and fun rewards for your student. The best part about it is, it’s easy. If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late!
We encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/iVaGWa/1 and following the simple instructions. Friends and family from all over can make donations to your child online. You can also share your Read-A-Thon page on social media! We will have reading sessions here at school, but you can encourage your child to read more at home during this time as well. The more students raise, the more options and prizes they will receive through Read-A-Thon.
The money earned from the Read-A-Thon will be used to provide books for the summer reading program and help purchase reading materials for our school!

SAVE THE DATE! - FAMILY BINGO NIGHT IS APRIL 2ND!
Please attend and help the Family FUNdraiser-Bingo Night. One of the key components to the FUNdraiser success is the silent and live auction…and the PTO needs donated items. Do you own or work for a business that might be willing to donate? Do you frequent a business you think might donate? If so, PTO would love you to ask them for a donation. The PTO also needs volunteers for this fun family event. It takes both donated items and volunteers to make this event successful. If you have a donation and/or can volunteer, please contact our President of PTO, Jessica Keen via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We appreciate all your help!

Notice from our Nurse
As a reminder, according to the District’s guidelines regarding flu and other illnesses, students exhibiting influenza symptoms should stay home from school and should not return until they are generally feeling well and are fever-free for 24 hours. The health and well being of our students and staff are priorities in the Jackson R-2 School District. We appreciate your support and help as we work together to keep our community safe and healthy.
To decrease the spread of potential communicable diseases, students exhibiting symptoms of impending illness may be sent home at the discretion of the school nurse. Factors considered before sending students home include a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, vomiting, or other symptoms that affect their ability to be productive at school. Students should not return to school until they are symptom-free (fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or unusual or unexplained rash) for 24 hours without the use of Tylenol or Motrin medication.
Another reminder, the mobile dental clinic will be at North on March 25, 2022. You can sign up online at www.myschooldentist.com or request a paper copy from your school nurse. A licensed dentist and staff will provide screenings, xrays as necessdary, cleanings, and possible other care such as fillings. Permission includes initial dental care & follow-up visits.
Hi North Families! Third quarter is flying by, and your young artists have been hard at work! We have been diving into self-portraiture and different drawing techniques. We will be tackling printmaking in March, and learning about different artists that have used printmaking and stamping as their primary choice of an artistic medium. We are slowly creeping upon the spring season, so we are hopeful in getting to be able to venture outside to work on our masterpieces! Be on the lookout for more information regarding NIGHT OF THE ARTS, which will be April 6th!
Happy Music in Our Schools Month,
It's so good to write to you today. North Select Singers and our 4th-grade students are working hard in preparation for our First Annual Night of the Arts, April 6th. All are welcome to come out and experience a night of food, fun, arts, and music. We Run is also starting up for girls and boys, every Monday after school beginning on March 7th. This is open to all 3rd and 4th-grade students. Permission slips and notes have went home so please make sure you return them before our first practice session.

Stay "On Track" with Physical Education
Hello North Family! We are having a lot of fun in PE right now as we are finishing up our basketball unit. Heading into March we will be learning some fitness concepts and finishing up the month with our dance unit. I am excited to see what kind of moves the students show off as we learn some popular folk and line dances that the students will be able to enjoy for years to come. It has been a great semester so far and I am looking forward to what the rest of the year will bring!
