Bright Star Behavior ~ Empathy
Trait of the Month - Optimism
This month's character trait is optimism, or looking on the bright side and believing things will work out for the best. We had a special guest, Joshua Cohen, who happens to be Mrs. Kempin's nephew. Joshua, a high school baseball player, was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in July 2016. He is now cancer-free and back on the pitching mound in his senior year of high school! Joshua spoke to the students about how being optimistic and the support of his family and friends, helped him through a difficult time in his life. Thank you, Joshua, for sharing your powerful message with our students and staff!

Pennies for Patients
Join the Hero Squad. Together We Change Cancer.
On Friday, a representative from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) visited Lyncrest School to kick off our Pennies for Patients Program. LLS is the world’s largest non-profit health organization dedicated to finding cures for blood cancers. The Pennies for Patients program is for elementary and middle schools that would like to support the mission to create a world without cancer by conducting a fundraising campaign. Student Council members will be collecting coins from the homeroom classes as we raise money for this very deserving cause.
COINS WILL BE COLLECTED ON 4/20 AND 5/4.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month
The Bergen County Department of Health Services shared the information below and attached.
This year’s theme, “Help for Today, Hope for Tomorrow”, is designed to draw attention to the persistent impact alcohol-related problems have on young people, their friends, families and communities. Parents can play an important role in giving their children a better understanding of the impact that alcohol can have on their lives.
The more people understand about alcohol use/abuse and addiction the better choices they can make toward continued well-being for themselves and others.
If we can assist you at any time in the future with information and/or resources, please do not hesitate to contact any of us at the Bergen County Health Department, Office of Alcohol and Drug Dependency: 201-634-2740.
Thank you, Mrs. Monzon, for your Financial Literacy presentation!

PTO Meeting, April 11th
Please join us for the PTO Meeting on Thursday, April 11th at 7:30 pm. We will be reviewing Lyncrest's 2017-2018 School Performance Report.
Calling all parents of Lyncrest 4th and 5th grade Classes of 2020! Please join us on the 11th at 7 pm for a conversation regarding the traditions and celebrations at Lyncrest for these two very special classes. With two classes involved in a "move up", we want to ensure that all students are able to experience the excitement in their final year at Lyncrest School. Traditionally, 5th graders have been on our Safety Patrol, elected Mayor, and participate in various end of the year activities. We want to hear suggestions from our parent community. If you are unable to participate in the discussion on the 11th, we will follow up with a survey.
