East High School - Sioux City, Iowa
December 2019
A Message from your Principal ~
Semester tests/District Common Assessments will be given on January 15th and 16th and will account for a percent of students’ final grades. All students are expected to take semester tests. Students will not be able to take semester tests early. If a student is absent, they will need to make arrangements for make-ups. Students who miss a semester test will receive a zero on the test until it is made up. Students will not receive Incomplete or Conditional Grades at the end of the semester. Friday, January 17th is a Teacher Work Day and there is no school for students. Report cards will be sent home with students sometime during the week of January 27th, 2020.
We want our students to become leaders and change the world; working together, we can help our students be the positive role models our world needs. Communication is key in this endeavor, so please feel free to contact your child’s teachers by email or phone to check on his/her progress. Canvas and Infinite Campus are available to monitor your child’s grades online, and for seniors to locate scholarships. Please contact Ms. Fischer (712-274-4000 Ext. 3123) if you need help accessing grades and scholarships in Canvas, or Ms. Burkhart-Burns (712-274-4002 Ext. 3105) for Infinite Campus help. You can also ask your child to show you his/her grades on his/her laptop.
Registration will start in January for the 2020-2021 school year. Please talk to your child about the courses they will be signing up for next year. We offer classes in engineering, health sciences, construction, graphic design, welding, information technology, culinary, business, automotive, JROTC, and police science, just to name a few. With so many opportunities to take dual-credit classes, many of our students are graduating high school with twenty plus college credits for free. [Students must be proficient on the Iowa Assessments and some dual credit classes have a minimum score on the ACT. Please contact your child’s counselor for more information].
During Parent/Teacher Conferences on February 26th and 27th, you will sign the Verification Sheet for the courses your child has selected. Seniors should be narrowing down their post-secondary options. A one or two year program from Western Iowa Technology College job can pay as much a four-year degree in certain areas. The staff at East High School wants OUR kids to excel and be college and career ready. If you have concerns or suggestions to improve our communication, please contact us using the "Let's Talk" feature below.
Please enjoy the holidays and relish the time spent with family and friends. Have a safe and joyful holiday season.
Richard O. Todd
East High School Principal

Communication and Preparedness
Student and staff safety is of paramount importance in the Sioux City Community School District. For this reason, the District exercises a host of crisis prevention and planning tactics. Should an emergency occur, the school notifies you through our Blackboard phone system. In an emergency, the system calls every phone number associated with your child in order to reach you. The message will give you details about the emergency and provide directions on when/where to pick up your child if the normal school day is altered. Learn more about school safety.
