Mr. Doyle's Message
We had a great week celebrating our students who earned Honor Roll and High Honor Roll for Quarter 1. Thank you to the families who were able to attend the celebration and congratulations to the students who earned this honor!
Next week is a funky 3-day week. Tuesday, there is no school due to the elections. Friday, there is no school in honor of Veterans Day. On Thursday morning at 7:30 am, we will be having our first Bring Your Vet to Breakfast event to honor our Creekside Veterans for their service to our country.
Enthusiastically,
Mr. Doyle

ART:
In art class, all 3 grade levels are experimenting with the element of form. Form pertains to the manner in which three dimensional objects occupy space. When working with the element of form, students are afforded the opportunity to solve visual problems more complex than those put forth in two dimensional works. They must consider every angle from which the viewer might look at a piece of art. Working with the element of form stretches the mind and forces “outside of the box” thinking.

MUSIC
We are in the heart of rotation 2, adding new chords and songs to our repertoire in 6th and 7th grade music. In 8th grade, we are gearing up to play 2 hands at a time on the keyboards, as well as working on reading musical notes on the treble and bass clef staffs.
21ST CENTURY SKILLS
It has been amazing seeing the collaborative efforts of the 21st Century Skills students as they put creativity and critical thinking on display. With our first round of projects completed, students look to their new topics of study. 8th-graders will assume the role of travel agents as they plan a vacation for a family of four. 7th-graders will be interviewing clients for their interior decorator firm in order to complete room makeovers. 6th-graders will switch from fundraiser planning and marketing to graphic designers as they design cereal boxes.
HEALTH
In rotation 2 Health, we are wrapping up our first units - 8th grade: Alcohol, Drugs, and Addiction Dangers; 7th grade: Bullying and Violence Prevention; 6th grade: Building Health and Wellness. Please inquire with your student(s) about what they've learned. We welcomed guest presenters from Healthy Choices last week (Oct.28 - Nov1) and will welcome a guest presenter from Turning Point to discuss healthy friendships (6th grade), bullying prevention (7th grade) and dating violence (8th grade) on November 10th.
PE
All 3 grade levels wrapped up their fitness testing in October. Tests included the Pacer test (cardiovascular endurance), Push Ups (muscular strength), Curl Ups/Sit Ups (muscular endurance) and the Sit and Reach test (flexibility). Students will continue to work on all areas during the winter months and re-test in the spring. With above average temperatures in October all 3 grade levels stayed outside and finished up a nice Flag Football unit. As we wrap up the second quarter students will head back inside and work on our bowling, floor hockey, team handball and fitness room units. Just before winter break all grade levels will begin their volleyball unit.
ORCHESTRA
On Nov. 17th the orchestra teachers are excited to welcome our orchestra families into the orchestra classroom to learn how to play their musicians' instruments in our first ever PARENT ORCHESTRA! We might not be performing any time soon at concerts, but we’re excited for our musicians to teach their family members how to play! The event starts at 7 PM and siblings can enjoy a movie next door if childcare is needed! Looking forward to seeing you!
CHOIR
We are busy preparing for the Holiday Concert which is on Monday, December 5, 2022 at 7:30pm. This concert will include performances by the 6, 7, and 8th grade choirs, the Bass and Treble Choirs, and the Prairiewood 5th Grade Choir.
Information went out to students this week about Solo & Ensemble contest. S&E contest is an extra singing opportunity for students who would like to work on a solo or in a small (2-8) group. Check with your child for more details.

WORLD LANGUAGE
We just finished learning about the Chinese Zodiac, including the vocabulary for each month, the 12 zodiac animals, and their legendary story. We discovered why certain animals were chosen to be in the zodiac and how to calculate which zodiac someone belonged to. This week, we are learning family member vocabulary. Students will be able to speak and spell all the family members in Chinese, which we'll use to create a Family Tree.
CMS Associate Position Openings!
WONDERFUL Creekside staff members! I will then share your words with the whole Creekside Staff as a Token of Appreciation! :)
The health, safety, and wellness of our students is a priority for our CMS Student Services department.
