Nixon Elementary School
All School Pajama Day is Friday, October 29! No footie pajamas. School appropriate footwear please!
We thank Michael and Joey for your efforts as you show CARE for our school each day!
Student Advisory Council
The power of student voice is very important. Children feel powerful when they are a part of the decision making for their school. The Student Advisory Council is a collective group of children that advises the Principal on matters of the school house and works to improve, refine, and create initiatives. The total of 60 children will participate in this council this school year giving a greater opportunity for perspective and voice for our school.
One focus of this school year will be to review and refine the Nixon Core Values of CARES. The council will not change the acronym of CARES, rather pose new words to represent the letters. We look forward to having our Nixon Core Values represent greater inclusion and responsibility.
The following students participate on the Student Advisory Council for the months of October and November:
Brooke Raynor - Mrs. Amaral's Kindergarten Class

Message from the Health Office
I want to thank all the Nixon families who are following the COVID-19 safety protocols we have in place. I greatly appreciate all the phone calls from families requesting symptom guidance. Everyone in the SPS system is working hard to keep your children as safe as possible.
I would like to ask everyone to continue "doubling down" over these next few weeks/months leading up to the holiday season and families will be gathering often with older family members. It is difficult to take your child for COVID-19 testing when it very likely is an illness that in other non-pandemic years you would consider quite minor. Please report ALL symptoms accurately on the absentee line. However inconvenient, if your child has had symptoms and later converts to a positive case, it becomes very inconvenient to other families whose children have become close contacts and must then quarantine and alter their schedules for 7 days.
There has been a spread of COVID-19 in families, even among vaccinated adults, and your actions will help protect all.
Here is the full list of symptoms for which parents/guardians should monitor their children and themselves.
Covid-19 Symptom Checklist
Fever (100.0 Fahrenheit or higher, (chills or shaking chills)
Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
New loss of taste or smell
Muscle aches or body aches
Cough (not due to other known cause such as chronic cough)
Sore throat, when in combination with other symptoms
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea when in combination with other symptoms
Headache, when in combination with other symptoms
Fatigue, when in combination with other symptoms
Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies) when in combination with other symptoms (Please note allergies need to have been documented in the health record in order to be accepted as an alternate diagnosis.)
We are all in this together, it is still a global pandemic. Let’s not let up until this is over.
