Friday, April 21st 2023
Dear Middle School Families,
S.T.E.A.M. Night was so much fun! We had approximately 300 people attend. Students got to engage with professionals from over 20 organizations in science, technology, engineering, art, and math fields.
Huge shout out to Cara Greene, MSMS paraprofessional. Mrs. Greene planned, resourced, and facilitated this amazing event for our students. Thank you to the Manitou Arts, Culture and Heritage Initiative who helped fund S.T.E.A.M. Night.
So much time and hard work went into making this event a success. Thank you to all of the volunteers who contributed your time as well...we appreciate you!
Sincerely,
Mr. Cady

6th Grade Snack Sign-up
6th graders eat lunch early, at 10:05am, so they tend to be hungry towards the end of the day. PAC is helping organize snacks for the 6th graders so they can focus on their afternoon classes. The big boxes of snacks they sell at Costco or Sam's are perfect. Please consider signing up HERE.

Countering Online Bullies & Hate Speech
As humans, we thrive on social connections and group associations. But this can lead us to be suspicious of people outside our group. This can be overcome by more exposure to people who are different from us. However, the internet can often make this more difficult. Help students recognize this challenge and find strategies for navigating content online. Countering hate speech online can be a challenging task, but there are several things you can do to help:
- Report hate speech: Most social media platforms have policies against hate speech, and they encourage users to report such content. If you come across hate speech online, report it to the appropriate platform. This can help to get the content removed and prevent it from spreading further.
- Engage in counter-speech: When you encounter hate speech online, you can also engage in counter-speech. This involves responding to the hateful content with messages that promote tolerance, respect, and understanding. By doing so, you can help to create a more positive online environment and reduce the impact of hate speech.
- Educate yourself and others: Educate yourself and others about the harmful effects of hate speech. Share resources and information about the impact of hate speech on individuals and communities. Encourage others to speak out against hate speech and to report it when they see it.
- Support organizations that combat hate speech: There are many organizations dedicated to combatting hate speech and promoting tolerance and understanding. Consider supporting these organizations through donations or by sharing their messages on social media.
- Practice self-care: It can be emotionally challenging to encounter hate speech online. Remember to take care of yourself and practice self-care. This might involve taking breaks from social media, talking to friends or family, or engaging in activities that bring you joy and relaxation.
