Dear Parents,
Please take a few moments to participate in the 2020 Family Climate Survey today. Each day staff, students and volunteers at Sommer work hard to ensure academic programs and the campus environment meet the needs of all children.
You are a critical part of our success!
The survey will only be available for a short time, please participate today.

“Would you like to enhance our school library collection and celebrate your child’s birthday? Click here for our Sommer Library Birthday Book program. A fifteen dollar donation allows your child to pick a new book (or book of their choice) and check it out for the first time. A sticker is placed in the book to honor the donation, and your child’s picture is displayed for the year in the hallway.”

Reading: We will continue our poetry unit. Students will recognize & analyze poetry characteristics and how they contribute to the author’s purpose. Students will explain visual patterns and structures of poetry including repetition and figurative language.
Writing: This week, we will learn about different types of poems and create a few of our own.
Spelling: Today, second, why, work, same, run, part, last
Grammar: Students will learn about the importance of using adjectives, especially in poetry.
Science: When the environment changes, living things adapt for survival. We will focus on what causes living things to hibernate, migrate, and go dormant.
Math: We will start our unit on Geometry. Children will sort and name 2-D and 3-D shapes. Kids will classify and sort polygons including sides and vertices.
This and that...
Valentine Box or Bag!!
Start working on your Valentine’s Day box. This is due in class no later than Thursday February 13th. Bag/Box large enough to hold all cards & candy (think adult shoe box size or larger) Another idea is a large gift bag! No decorating! :)
name is clearly displayed for all to see
hole/opening is large enough for items to be dropped inside
there is a way to get into the box to read cards.
Our party will be held on Friday, Feb. 14th. It will be low-key and classmates only. (No parents this time around!) I do ask that everyone wear red, white, pink or other valentine colors just because it looks awesome in the pics. .
