Welcome Back!
Dear Watertown High School Families,
Welcome back! Hopefully this summer was slightly more restful than last. While this year will bring its own challenges, the lessons of the past 18-months will help keep us safe, healthy, and committed to a great academic year. Similar to last year, we ask for your patience as guidance and regulations are shifting even as I draft this letter. Last year we proved just how flexible and resilient our students, staff, and families are, and I know this year will again display those admirable qualities.
Our building was busy this summer with camps, extended school year, community education classes, and summer school, but our facilities team still managed to prepare the building for a beautiful and clean re-entry. All students will be learning in-person this year, which is welcomed progress. With the increased capacity in the building, we will update you soon with what, if any, specific safety precautions are being implemented (masks, distancing, etc.).
I know this hasn’t been an easy couple of years and I am proud to serve as your principal through it all. As strong as we have been, many find themselves fatigued and uneasy after the years we’ve had. If your student feels overwhelmed and needs help, please reach out to your student’s guidance counselor or another adult in the building. We are here to help. In alignment with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Acceleration Roadmap, this year we will prioritize:
Fostering a sense of belonging and partnership among student and families
Continuously monitoring students’ understanding
Ensuring strong grade-appropriate instruction with just-in-time scaffolds when they are needed
School begins on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 with a delayed start for students in grades 10-12.
