April Reading, Writing, and Knowledge Showers

April was filled with reading narrative non-fiction text leading learners to determine essential information from literary elements and recognize facts from opinions. In addition, we compared genres and information for accuracy and reliability. Students collaborated to practice inferring, sequencing, and defining new words using non-fictional books and fantasy stories. Together, we navigated through anchor books including The Ugly Vegetables, Penguin Chick, Just a Dream, The Wartville Wizard, The Lorax, and The Diary of a Spider. While other shared reading included poetry, articles, brain pop, and student-safe videos. Jack Prelutsky's "Plooters" reminds us that we must take responsibility for littering and polluting our Earth. Learning to evaluate purpose in advertising led to creating billboards supporting saving spiders or exterminating them!
