The Mark of Excellence project, sponsored by The Foundation for Music Education, seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by high school and middle school bands, choirs and orchestras. The project gathers entries from throughout the United States and provides valuable feedback for all entrants. The Citation of Excellence recognizes outstanding achievement by non-varsity high school and middle school bands and orchestras. A unique competitive environment is created which allows ensembles to compare their performance quality to other outstanding groups from across the country. The top 25% of entrants are recognized as National Winners, with the second 25% named as Commended Winners. All entrants receive a compilation recording of the winning performances. Winners are recognized in regional and/or national publications and at national and regional conventions.

Denton ISD is proud to announce that four of its bands have received awards from The Foundation for Music Education for their performances in 2020-21.

Fine Arts Facility Renovations

Construction and renovation projects from the 2018 Denton ISD bond continue to move forward. In the 2018 bond election, voters elected to renovate and expand many DISD facilities, including Fine Arts facilities that needed updating, renovation, or expansion. Some of these projects have been completed and the students and teachers have been able to start creating and performing in their new spaces. We will continue to share photos of new Fine Arts facilities in our future newsletters.

Fine Arts in Action at Football Games

Varsity football games provide a showcase of student skills and talents across many Fine Arts programs in Denton ISD. DISD's bands, cheer teams, color guards, and drill teams provide an exciting game atmosphere filled with the sight and sounds our audiences enjoy. Our students carry on their school's unique traditions, provide the soundtrack to the game, and lead the crowd to cheer the teams to victory week after week. At halftime, Denton ISD's audiences enjoy the drill teams and the marching band shows that the bands will soon be taking to their own contests. The Denton ISD communities love and appreciate all of their student performers at these games both home and away. Many thanks to our hard working students and directors!
