Hootenanny – November 7
4:30-9:00
The BIG event is almost here! PTA is finalizing plans for the 2014 Hootenanny on Friday, November 7, from 4:30-9:00. An event this size does not happen on its own. If you haven’t already done so, please contact your Room Coordinator for information on volunteer sign ups. Each class is asked to step forward with volunteers for the night. With everyone doing their part, the load will be lighter for us all. It is going to be a GREAT night!
Election Day – November 4
Don’t forget to VOTE! School will be closed on this day.

PTA President's Report - Jean Scott
Thank you so much for the support you have shown Oakview this month. After our fourth Boosterthon Fun Run, I am amazed once again by our families' generosity toward and passion for our school. Hundreds of you showed up to cheer on your little runners, and so many of you have sent in gracious pledges for all the laps they ran. Kudos to PTA's Boosterthon co-chairs, Dave and Paula Gorman, for an outstanding job.
And thank you, parents, for your patience and dedication at this very busy time of year. We have finished our Red Ribbon Week effort to encourage our children to remain drug-free, and now we turn to our book fair and our fall festival. Hootenanny is by the far the most exciting night of the year at Oakview. Please read on for more information about this and other happenings.
As always, you may reach me at dianajeanscott@yahoo.com if you have any questions.
Hootenanny
The fun run is over and now it’s time to have a HOOT! Join your peers on Friday, November 7, from 4:30-9:00 p.m. for a night of fun, games, carnival rides, bingo and food.
Come and try some new games for 2014. Test your speed and agility at the Owl-mazing Race, catch a prize at Fishing Fun, and launch a pumpkin at Punkin Chunkin’.
The old favorites will be there too: glow-in-the-dark dance party, carnival rides, fun zone with silly string and confetti eggs, and tissue paper flowers.
Our cake walk and bake sale need your help! We need lots of cakes, pies and cake pops for our cake walk. We need cookies, rice cereal treats, and brownies for our bake sale. Even if you haven’t signed up, all baked goods are welcome. All items are due on Friday, November 7, at 8:00 a.m. Please make sure that all cake boxes or baggies include your name and telephone number to comply with DHEC regulations.
Hoot packets will be sent home with students on October 22. Ticket pre-sales will be held on November 5 and 6 from 7:30-8:30 a.m.
Do you have questions about the Hootenanny or a desire to help out further? Contact Blair Vana at blairvana@gmail.com.
See you at the HOOT!
Book Fair - New Hours

America Recycles Week, November 10 - 14
The Environmental Committee will collect recycling items every morning, November 10-14, at the main and kindergarten entrances. Room coordinators will contact parents soon with volunteer opportunities during this week. Also, parents will receive information through each child's classroom regarding all the items that can be recycled.
*Recycle Your Gently Used Shoes*
For one week only, November 10-14, Oakview will collect pairs of shoes to help those in need around the world. Collection containers will be available outside the main, kindergarten, and bus entrances. All shoes, new and used, are accepted as long as they have no rips or tears. All shoes will be given to Shoes4Water, which will then send them to Kenya, where shoes and water are difficult to find. The funds from the sale of the shoes will help the program dig wells and buy pumps and filtration equipment for the local people.
*Recycle Your Bottle Caps*
Did you know that Oakview recycles bottle caps? But beginning now through the spring, Oakview will be reusing collected bottle caps for an exciting project. The art teachers and Mrs. Demerrit are planning to create a recycled bottle cap art mural this spring along the top of the wall across from the science lab. We need to collect all sorts of colored bottle caps for this project! Bottle caps can be sent to Oakview at any time.
If you have any questions regarding America Recycles Week, or if you are interested in joining the Environmental Committee, please contact Holly Mannino at fhmannino@bellsouth.net.
