Miss Vickers' Kindergarten Class
Thanks!!
Parents, I just wanted to take the time to say THANK YOU for all you have done so far this year, between all of the supplies you have donated, the help you have offered, and just the encouraging words and excitement you have had made this such a wonderful two weeks. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each and every one of your amazing children. The out pour of support from you has been incredible!
What We Did This Week:
This week, we started really digging into the kindergarten curriculum and getting into the standards. In reading, we discussed and practiced how we can read stories just by looking at the pictures. This connected to our writing, where we practiced telling stories through our pictures and began labeling and writing a few words about our pictures. In math, we practiced counting and writing the numbers 1-5. We also spent a lot of time talking about The Energy Bus and discussing how we stay positive and deal with bullies.
Birthdays!!
This has not yet come up, but just to let you know in advance, the days of being able to bring massive cupcakes and letting the kids devour them on your child's birthday are over...On their birthdays you are welcome to bring a treat, but it has to be off of the approved district nutritional list, which can be found online. Some examples include, mini-cupcakes, Rice Krispie Treats, fruit snacks, or Goldfish Crackers.
Library Books
As I am sure you have noticed, your child should have come home with a library book today. We will go to the library on Fridays, so make sure to bring your book back by Friday or they will not be able to check out a new one. If you would like to send it back earlier, that is fine too.
More Updates and Reminders:
*Please remember to make sure your child wears tennis shoes on THURSDAY for P.E.
*Children can get ice cream or a slushie at lunch on FRIDAYS if they bring a note and $1.
*If you have any questions about homework or the behavior sheets, please do not hesitate to ask. Please also remember to send back their folders with their homework and behavior sheets every day.
Reading Tip of the Week:
Did you know that practicing how to write makes you a better reader? It is also important that children BELIEVE they are writers in order for them to become writers. I challenge you to do something this week that makes your child feel like a writer. For example, tell your child to make a grocery list of what you need at the store. Do not give them help and even if it looks like sloppy lines on a page, make them think that it is the best list you have ever seen! Take this list to the store and use it to get what you need. Activities like this will make your child confident in their writing, willing to take risks, and feel proud as a writer.
