We are wrapping up March and heading in to Spring Break~

We have a great week on tap as we continue to prepare for GMAS and the spring testing season. Our sixth grade scholars completed Spring MAP testing last week and our seventh and eighth grade scholars are prepping to take it this week!

Friday we will celebrate with a PBIS #MovieMadness activity. Scholars can pay $25.00 in PBIS bucks to join the fun the last hour of the day on Friday. It is also a FREE Hat and REDSKIN SPIRIT day!

Remember we are collecting COKE caps and Box Tops and please send any in that you have with your child! You can do this right from your phone. Check out the link here:

The Wild Adventures Trip is open so please consider this ELITE experience. The trip is $89.00 and we will be offering up to three scholarships. Details of the scholarship application will be in the next #BeBCMS Newsletter. The trip number is 12193. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Waddell. The deadline for the deposit for the trip is this Sunday. On April 9th we will begin a scholarship opportunity. We will award six scholars a chance to win a trip.

Also, don't forget, our yearbooks are on sale for $40.00 Cash or Check-- due to Ms. KP! Checks made out to Bryan County MIddle School! You can find the link on our web page.

Also, we have added tabs to our web page where you can find more information about the awesome events and work we do easier! There are two new additional tabs, STUDENT INFORMATION and PARENT INFORMATION! Check it out!

#ReadersAreLeaders (The 5)

What is the best way to increase your child's reading skills? Encouraging reading! ANY reading! ALL reading! The more you talk about what you just read or what you are reading, the more your child will become interested in reading! Any time you have the opportunity to read a book WITH your child, that is winning! My own 8th grader is reading "To Kill A Mockingbird" in her 8th grade ELA class and we are taking the time to read it together! She is not an avid reader like I am, so I am cherishing the opportunity for her and I to read together in hopes that it fosters her love of reading!

If you are interested in checking out some Middle Level Novels: Check these:

Wonder by R.J. Palacio

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

A Wrinkle In Time by Madeline L'Engle

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

Turtles All The Way Down by John Green

Piecing Me Together by Reene Watson

Notes from Ms. Raeburn (The 10)

March: the month of LUCK

In March, my notes section will focus on the upcoming testing season

March is leaving us like a lamb! Spring suns shines down and testing season is upon us! As we wrap up this last week before break, I will encourage everyone to take the downtime to heart! Play outside, go for a bike ride, enjoy the fresh air, read a book!

We know that when we return to school on April 9th, we have three weeks until testing begins. This year, our testing window is later and that is by design. We want to make sure that our scholars are prepared to the very best of their ability!

My next newsletter will be on April 8th! April I will focus on data and our testing season. I am looking forward to cleaning my office up and catching up on my reading over spring break! I also will be able to take my own kids to school, which I don't get to do very often.....so I am excited! I am positive that my kids aren't looking forward to it though, they will tell me I mess up thier whole routine! #LifeInAMiddleSchool #LifeWITHMiddleSchoolers :)

Other notes:

We would love to begin collecting snack donations for GMAS time! If you are willing and able to donate any of the following for your child's grade level team, please send it in to the main office labeled. Thank you.

Donations needed:

  • Fruit Snacks
  • Snack Crackers (Individually Wrapped)
  • Granola Bars (any kind)
  • Mini Waters
  • Hard Candy (Jolly Ranchers, Mints, Cinnamons, Etc)
  • Gum

We will have a celebration for all scholars who earned Proficient and Distinguished on last year's GMAS and we will have a whole school kick off on Friday April 27th.

GMAS this year is scheduled to begin Monday April 30th and run through May 11th.

We are very fortunate at BCMS to be almost 1:1 which allows us to test all our scholars in the morning!

TRIBE Shop is still open! See Ms. Shelby for GEAR and of course, we are always collecting box tops! We have new shirts that we are ordering. Check out the link here:

Thank you for being proactive and for supporting our school and our passion work! I am proud to be your principal and would love to hear from you!
