6th Grade SMART MOVES REMINDER
This is a friendly reminder that our 6th grade SMART Moves Celebration Ceremony will take place on, Thursday, May 9th at 1:30. Doors will open at 1:00 for parents to view the students projects that showcase what they learned from the program. The formal ceremony will begin promptly at 1:30. Anyone who attends MUST SHOW PHOTO ID. Please make sure to tell any family members this so they don't leave their id in their cars. Speaking of cars, additional parking will be available on the back play pad. Parking in the front lot should be only in a designated parking spot, do not create your own parking space.
Following the ceremony and prior to our busy dismissal time and parking lot fun, parents will be able to sign their child out with the office. In fact, if you know in advance that you will be signing your 6th grade child out, you can email stephanie.constantineau@uticak12.org. We will have a list of students who are "pre-signed out" to help avoid congestion/lines in the office, once the ceremony is complete.
We look forward to a wonderful afternoon with guests from Sterling Heights Police Department and from our Utica Community Schools Central Office.
Have a nice evening!
Mrs. Tepper
Welcome May!
Our 2018-2019 School year is racing to a close as we are already in the month of May! We have worked together as a staff to make sure your children have the best education possible, and there have been many rewarding experiences and opportunities for your children as a result!
This has also been a year full of many wonderful events that would not have been possible without our tireless Havel Volunteer League! Our HVL is responsible for our Back to School Snow Cone Social, as well as the Santa’s Secret Shop in December. Your participation in our fundraisers help the HVL to pay for supplies needed by the students, Bare Books, periodicals for some of the classes, hosting restaurant nights and family events, etc. Plus, nearly $5,000 was donated by the HVL for the busing of our students for their grade-level field trips:
KDG - Upland Hills Farm
1st Grade - Department of Natural Resources
2nd Grade - Detroit Zoo
3rd Grade - The Henry Ford Museum
4th Grade - Greenfield Village
5th Grade - Pine Knob
6th Grade - Camp Tamarack and Macomb Recreation Center
A huge thanks goes out to our HVL Board, Mrs. Dawn Cole, Mrs. Amy Jacquemotte, Mrs. Erica Ortega, Mrs. Jessica Peterson and Mrs. Adrienne Rubel and, of course, the volunteers that have given their time to help out.
Before questions arise about your child’s placement next year, I want to share with you what our placement process looks like. In late spring I will meet with each grade level and support staff. Together we will discuss each child, his/her unique learning style and needs. We then take great care to create “learning communities” to ensure we have balanced classrooms in terms of learning style, gender, behaviors, etc. We will place each child into a learning community in which he/she will be most successful. Each learning community will then be placed with a grade level teacher. Please note that the teachers nor I will be taking specific teacher requests for the 2019-2020 school year. Our staff works diligently as a team to create optimal learning communities. You can anticipate finding out who your child’s teacher is in late August via email.
