Let's get to classes on time!
Though you may have seen him outside waiving or greeting students in the morning, Mr. Mark is our Ryan Middle School Safety Assistant. In addition to safety needs around our building, with students and staff, Mr. Mark works closely with students on positive academic and behavior interventions. We are always working to be more proactive to have students in class, on time and ready to learning when the bell rings.
Monday, October 21st, Connections classes (8th period) and some Health and PE classes switched for Quarter 2. We have given students an opportunity to make sure they find their new classes and are on time. We will begin counting tardies tomorrow, Wednesday, October 23rd for Quarter 2.
Students earn a lunch detention with 3 unexcused tardies, after school detention with 5 unexcused tardies, and an attendance meeting and an after school detention with subsequent unexcused tardies. We are focused on helping students develop strategies to get to class on time and addressing any concern that is preventing them from getting to class on time. Passing periods are 4 minutes and most classes are within a couple doors of each other making travel times for students manageable.
Mr. Mark works hard and meets with each student to talk about their tardies, develops strategies to help students get to class on time, and listens to student concerns so that we can provide help to students if needed. We want students to know we listen and we are here to help. Getting everyone to class on time is our goal. If there is anything we can do better, or if there is something that would help us better support our students, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for all of your positive support!

ALICE Training
During advisory classes, Ryan staff will be providing a refresher training for ALICE protocols. ALICE is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. Our school district adopted the ALICE protocols last year in order to prepare students and staff in the event of a threat either inside or outside of the school.
Sometimes this training can bring up conversations or sometimes anxiety. The ALICE refresher is a power point presentation and discussion between staff and students.
Over time this second semester we will be utilizing scenarios to guide class discussions at various times throughout the school year that will provide opportunities for students to practice by talking through how they would react in various potentially dangerous situations at school and outside of school.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Petra Timmons at 452-4751 or by email at petra.timmons@k12northstar.org.
As always, we value greatly appreciate our Wolverine families and thank you for your support!

Parent Drop-off and Pick-up Information
Morning Drop-off
Please pull up next to the curb so that your student does not need to cross between cars. Use the inside lane next to the curb for drop off and the outside lane for drive through. Students and adults should cross at the cross walk where there is a crossing guard.
Afternoon Pick-up
Please use the right lane while waiting for school to be dismissed and bumper up close to the car in front of you. When the car in front of you pulls out into the drive through lane, please move up and take their spot. Once your student is in your car, put your signal on and the person at the crossing will wave you into the drive through lane. It is important for your child's safety that you not stop in the drive through lane making your child cross between cars. If everyone uses the right lane and moves up when the car in front moves out, student loading will go quickly and safely.
Visitor Parking
Please do not pull through the visitor parking to pick-up your student. This slows down the traffic flow and often double parks visitors that are trying to leave. This creates a safety concern for students. The visitor parking is designed for guest presenters or families that need to come into the building.
