Volunteers
We welcome parents, friends, and community to become involved in educating students. Help build a strong future by becoming a Park Trails volunteer. Volunteers can assist in classrooms, cafeteria, clinic, media center, field trips, special events and even the office. Teachers determine the degree of volunteer assistance that is needed in their class. All volunteers must complete an online registration form and be cleared to volunteer as required by the Jessica Lundsford Act.
To apply on-line go to www.browardschools.com/getinvolved. Volunteers must always sign in before going to their assignments. Younger children are not allowed to accompany parents on the volunteer's activities in the school.

During the month of October, the character trait highlighted is RESPONSIBILITY. I will be reading "Perfect Pigs: An Introduction to Manners" by Marc Brown and Stephen Krensky to the school. Students who are chosen to represent their class for showing responsibility will be highlighted on the morning announcements show and receive a certificate at the end of the month.

Red Ribbon Week is celebrated from 10/24-10/28. During this week, students will participate in activities that teach health & wellness and decision making. What a great time for parents to facilitate family discussions about healthy activities and peer pressure while lending a listening ear.
Looking for a family activity related to health & wellness?
The Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale is hosting various activities on 10/1, 10/2, 10/22, 10/23. You can meet the K9 Federal Dogs that assist local task forces or explore and take pictures with special response vehicles. There will also be special speakers to discuss details of their jobs keeping people safe.
Our second grade students enjoyed our "I'm Thumbody" presenter focusing on self-esteem and I have enjoyed presenting a series of lessons to select fifth grade classes on Human Rights. During October, I am looking forward to visiting classes to discuss keeping our bodies healthy and safe in support of Red Ribbon Week.
