How Californians Use Their Water
During the day, the average person uses 80-100 gallons of water! Just a five minute shower can take 10-20 gallons and a toilet can use 1.6 to 7 gallons of water each time it's flushed! California is one of the biggest water users in the entire U.S. Statewide, there are three main sectors that water is used for. 50% of the water is used for the environment, 40% is used for agriculture, and 10% is used for urban.
How Is Our Water Distributed
On Earth there is a lot of water. Unfortunately, 97% of that water is saline(ocean) water that is undrinkable, because of the salt in it, and only 3% is fresh water that we drink. Out of the freshwater, 30.1% is groundwater, 68.7% is from ice caps and glaciers,0.9% comes from other sources and 0.3% is surface water. The world's surface water 87% lakes, 11% is from swamps, and 2% is from rivers.
No Baths!
1.Filling up just one bath tub could take up to 70 gallons! One 5 min shower takes 10-20 gallons which saves more water. So take showers instead of baths.
Turn Off the Water!
2.It has been proven that turning the sink off when it
Te not needed when you wash your hair can save up to 150 gallons of water per month so don't use what you don't need!
No Overflows!
3.Don't overflow a pool with water. Not doing so will result in less loss of water due to splashing.
Don't Throw The Water Out!
4. When you refill your pet's water tank, don't throw the water out. Instead, do the right thing and water a tree or plant. Also, when you're done with the ice cubes from your drink, don't throw them into the sink, put them around a plant so the plant can use that water.
Only Use One
During the day, only use one water bottle or glass and just refill it. This will reduce the amount of water that will be needed to wash glasses.
