STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
"Success" in living things
Silver Team Advanced Science students participated in a poster/project sharing event after completing the creative, research-based science project. Students developed criteria defining "success" in living things, researched nominees, and ranked their nominees based on the evidence collected. Each project was unique, but all included organisms that are at the top of their game! Success topics included "top predator", "greatest lifespan", "strongest organism", "greatest global range", and "adaptations that we wish we had".
STEAM Challenge
Miss Williams' convocation students participated in the first STEAM Challenge created by Fernwood's STEAM Team. Students had to work together to build a cereal bracelet on a pipe cleaner using one hand. Students had to use positive communication, conflict-resolution skills, and supporting each other! Students enjoyed the challenge and are looking forward to our next challenge.
National Poetry Month
"The very Hungry Caterpillar"
This week my 7th Fundamentals students read the book "The very Hungry Caterpillar" in Spanish and described its diet. Also, they discussed the effects of an unhealthy diet.

During the month of March all 6th grade students had the chance to vote on their favorite books from the Fernwood library! A giant bracket was created as a bulletin board, and students could fill out a digital bracket for the chance to win a copy of the winning book! Two students actually had perfect brackets!
