A Three Day Weekend Ahead!

While the weather remained gloomy for most of the week this week, that didn't slow us down! Getting to watch students get excited about checking out new books from the library is nothing short of uplifting, and listening to the mathematical discourse that our students are engaging in is truly exciting. A special thank you to the Downers Grove Police Dept. for collaborating with us on our lockdown drill this week, our students and staff did a great job, as usual. Sign-ups for parent-teacher conferences are now open, and more information can be found below. As always, please let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback. Take care and have a great long weekend!

Dismissal Procedure Reminder

Our dismissal procedures are designed to get students home from school as safely and quickly as possible. When picking up a student in the car line, please make sure to have a sign with your last name on it in your passenger window. These signs allow our staff to quickly identify your families car, and call your student outside right away. The Highland main office is happy to provide you with you an additional sign, if you need one.

Attention Free Lunch Participants

Recently, there has been a large increase in the number of students who are participating in our school lunch program that consistently bring a lunch to school, in addition to the lunch that is being provided to them. This has led to a significant amount of food waste, or leftover items.

If students are signed up for the school lunch program, they will be given a lunch each day, rather than it being an option. We are happy to be able to continuing to offer the lunch and snack option. As a reminder, if you no longer would like your child to participate, please contact the Highland main office.

Optional Student COVID-19 Testing

Voluntary COVID Testing Program Signup

District 58 encourages families to consider signing up for free PCR COVID-19 testing for District 58 students. Registration for this optional testing program is open and our program is actively underway.

Families can select from any or all of three types of testing services including:

  1. Weekly screening testing (routine testing)

  2. Symptomatic testing (testing when a student or staff member develops symptoms at school)

  3. Test-to-Stay (testing for situations in which a student has been identified as a close contact)

Test-to-Stay, an IDPH-endorsed process that allows a close contact to remain in school with regular antigen testing, will begin next week. Please see the district communication regarding the IDPH's guidance regarding when Test-to-Stay can be implemented in schools.

The student sign up for our school can be found below.

Books will be shipped to the school & distributed directly to the kids. Be sure to check your teacher’s wish list & get them a little something - we know they deserve it!

The Return of Fun Lunch/Treat Day/Pizza Lunch

We will share more information next week about our plans for the return of Fun Lunch, Treat Day and Pizza Lunch. Check the PTA Newsflash and the PTA Facebook group for more details!

MemberHub/Directory

As we shared previously, we are working on a process to make the PTA directory accessible to members, as the directory feature on our new platform, MemberHub, is not user-friendly. We will be sharing that info with PTA members in the next few weeks. Thank you for your patience!

If you have yet to purchase your PTA membership and would like access to the directory mentioned above, please use this link to join us: https://highland58pta.memberhub.com/store.
