Eat Away Egg

By;Colin Cary

Purpose Statement

The purpose of this experiment was to see what acid effects an egg the most I became interested in this experiment because it will be fun The information gained from this experiment will help others by using the right acid for simple things

RC Cola has a pH of 2.387

RC Cola has the most acid out of all the soft drinks in the U.S. So I’m going to use it in my experiment. is a cola-flavored soft drink developed in 1905 by Claude A. Hatcher. Vinegar is a liquid consisting of about 5-20% acetic acid, water and other trace chemicals, which may include flavorings. The acetic acid is produced by the fermentation of ethanol by acetic

acid bacteria. Tomatoes are acidic in the mouth and stomach.

The gastric acid in the stomach has a pH of 1.5 to 3.5, while the acidity of tomato juice falls between 4.1 and 4.6. if they are to be canned as acid foods, these products must be acidified to a pH of 4.6 or lower with lemon juice or citric acid.

My hypothesis is vinegar will eat away the egg the most I base my hypothesis on back ground knowledge.

RC Coal

Tomato juice

3 cups

IV: Type of Acid

DV: The type of egg

CV: Size of fresh farm eggs

1. Fill each cup with one of the liquids

2. Drop one egg in each liquids

3.Cheak eggs after 1 week.

4.Record amount of eggshell dissolved using the following scale 0=none 1=<half 2=>half 3=all gone

The original purpose of this experiment was to see what acid eats away an egg the most …..The results of the experiment were vinegar eats away an eggshell the most and tomato juice eats away an egg the least.

My hypothesis was vinegar will eat away the egg the most. The results indicate that this hypothesis should be considered right. Based on the results of this experiment vinegar eats away an egg the most If I were to conduct this science fair project again I would use different acids
