Mrs. Humphreville's 6th Grade
Weekly Happenings Sept. 4
Greetings, Hillcrest STEAM Pirates!
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! We have devoted time to STEAM training this summer and will be sharing what we've learned to ensure our learners are equipped to meet the challenges of project based learning in a highly productive way! As facilitators, we want to instill wonder and curiosity with guiding our learners to be thoughtful about questions that lead to deeper learning experiences.
Work Like A Captain...Play Like A Pirate!
Math: In math we took a couple of pre assessments and have leveled our students abilities only on multiplication and dividing fractions. They will move to different 6th grade teachers, while working on EngageNY math concepts throughout the year. So far students have completed math minutes, to refresh many different math concepts with me in class and also working on division of fractions by whole numbers.
Science/Engineering: In science we are learning about matter and what things are engineered and non-engineered. We have had many fun engineering activities like constructing a castle, building a boat, and building a weight bearing bridge. It is so fun to see them using their imaginations along with engineering terms.
