Welcome Back

It is going to be a wonderful semester! Teachers met Friday to get geared up for the second half of the school year, and it was an exciting day that we spent discussing STEM goals and how to balance the components of text complexity. We are ready to hit the ground running tomorrow so that your children have a successful semester!
Big picture

Mrs. Downs is the WKRN Educator of the Week!

Tune in to WKRN News 2 on Thursday, January 10th sometime during the 10 p.m. newscast or Friday, January 11th sometime between 5:55 a.m.-7:00 a.m. on the Good Morning Nashville newscast to see our sweet Mrs. Downs. She was nominated and chosen by News 2 as the Tennessee Lottery's Educator of the Week. Silvia Castaneda visited right before the winter break to interview her and capture a little of what makes her so special to everyone at JAE. Mrs. Downs is truly one of a kind, and her sweet spirit is magnetic.

Educators of the Week will have an opportunity to win the title of statewide Educator of the Month. Voting for Educator of the Month is simple! Voting will be open February 4-March 3. Just go to http://www.tnlottery.com/education-wins/educator-of-the-month then click on the photo of Mrs. Downs to place your vote. Once you've voted, you'll have the opportunity to request for others to vote via Facebook and Twitter.

Everyone is allowed to vote once per day for the entire month of FEBRUARY, so ask everyone to vote for Mrs. Downs! At the end of the month, the educator with the most votes will receive statewide recognition as Educator of the Month. I just know that Mrs. Downs is going to win!

Nature Hop Sensory Path

Students will have the opportunity to jump on logs and lily pads with our new Nature Hop Sensory Path! All ages will enjoy a trek along the multi-sensory circuit that offers an active brain break and addresses various learning styles.

PTO Carnival Volunteer Luncheon

Would you like to lend your talents to a great cause and have a great time connecting with other JAE parents? Join us on Thursday in the Art room at 10:00 to learn more about the super fun events surrounding the auction and carnival. The carnival is always a huge success, but it takes a TON of help to make it run smoothly. We look forward to seeing you!

Recyclables Needed in the STEM Lab!

Please send cardboard tubes to the STEM Lab. Mrs. Thurston and the students will be using tons of them over the next two weeks. Thank you!

The Greenhouse is Growing Soon!

The JAE Greenhouse is on its way! I spoke with the director of support services for Sumner County Schools last week, and he assured me that building will begin very soon. JAE will be the only elementary school in town with a stellar structure like the one that will be housed at the back of the building. There will be a concrete pad underneath with a concrete sidewalk running along the center. It will also have gas heat and water.

I will keep you updated as progress is made. I am hoping for everything to take shape and be finished by the middle of February. The next step will be purchasing tables, racks, and supplies for planting and harvesting. Please let me know if you have a green thumb and are interested in helping!
