Ferson Creek eNews
August 6, 2021
From the Principal...Kristy McKnight
This is the last eNews of the summer! We are so excited to welcome your children back to school on Wednesday. The start of the year is always filled with mixed emotions, but having students in our classrooms brings back the energy to Ferson. We are thrilled to see them all again!
As we prepare for your students to arrive on Wednesday, it would be very helpful if you could fill out this form regarding your child's dismissal plans. This will help teachers know your child's typical dismissal routine. If there is a change to the dismissal plans, temporarily or permanently, please be sure to notify your child's teacher and the front office.
Please read below for specific arrival/dismissal procedures, Supply Drop-Off details, information on our new Empower special, and more.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Kristy McKnight
Arrival Procedures
We will follow our typical arrival procedures on the first day of school. Parents will be permitted to walk their children up to their classroom doors.
Dismissal Procedures
Our dismissal procedures will also be similar to last year. Please familiarize yourself with these procedures prior to Wednesday. All details can be found here.
Please remember that it is typical for buses to be running late for the first couple weeks of school as we settle in. We appreciate your patience as we work through our new routines.
Lunch & Snack Information
All K-5 students are eligible for free lunch and breakfast again this year. You can find the daily lunch menu here. If students order a breakfast, they will receive it at the end of the day to take home for the following morning. If students order a juice or a water, their PushCoin account will be charged. Breakfasts and lunches will not be available over the weekends.
All students will have a snack during the day. When possible, snack will take place outside. We ask for your help in sending something healthy, as well as quick and easy for your child to eat. Additionally, please only send water with your child to have in the classroom. I always suggest a water bottle with a straw/flip top as opposed to a screw on lid. A classroom is a busy place and we love to knock over water bottles!
Save the Date - Welcome Event & Supply Drop-Off
All students are invited to drop off school supplies and to meet classroom teachers on Monday, August 9, 2019, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. As a reminder, all students must wear a mask to enter the building.
I encourage you to follow this schedule:
4:00 pm to 5:00 pm – Last names beginning with A– I
4:30 pm to 5:30 pm – Last names beginning with J – Q
5:00 pm to 6:00 pm – Last names beginning with R – Z
If your designated time does not work for you, please know that you are welcome to come anytime between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
Only students are permitted in the school during this event. However, we encourage parents to head out to the back blacktop to sign up with our PTO, check out spirit wear, and explore additional opportunities.
New Special - Empower
Empower is our new special that K-5 students will experience twice a week. Each experience will focus on building the competencies through play, where students will work in partners, small groups and large groups. Teachers will explicitly focus on the SEL standards and competencies through real world, hands-on learning. Teachers and students will model and role play to solidify their understanding and ability to utilize the competencies such as problem solving, communication, teamwork and conflict resolution. The experiences will involve students using these skills to design, build, imagine, wonder, collaborate and connect. Student choice and reflection are highlighted in these experiences. The experiences are flexible, allowing the teacher to respond to the students needs and interests based on the individuals in their class. The experiences will look different based on the grade level and the interests of the students in a particular group. There are 8 modules in the program, but differ based on the grade level: Additionally, here is a parent site to provide insight on each module.
