Elementary School Senior Walk Invitations
Attention Seniors! Did you attend Norman Binkley, Shayne, Crieve Hall or Granbery? You are invited to walk the halls again! Each of these elementary schools is having their own Class of 2023 walk-offs. Norman Binkley's is Monday, May 22 at 2pm, Shayne's is Tuesday, May 23 at 8am, Crieve Hall's is Wednesday, May 24th at 8am, and Granbery's is Wednesday, May 24 at 2pm. Wear your cap and gown!

Rensselaer Medal
For more than 100 years, Rensselaer, in conjunction with high schools around the world, has awarded the Rensselaer Medal to promising secondary school students who have distinguished themselves in mathematics and science. This year, the Rensselaer Medal was awarded to JOHS junior Omeed Shirani. Along with this medal, Omeed will receive a merit scholarship that can be put toward an education and career in science, engineering, and technology. Good job Omeed!
Library News
Return your books
If you have not already returned your books, we need all library books returned as soon as possible. Books not returned will put a fine on the account. Once the book is returned, the fine will be removed. We will take returned books up until the last day of school! To check your library account, go into Clever and follow these directions: How to Check Your Library Account
If you need any help, just ask a librarian!
Laptops, Chargers, Hotspots
All laptops and chargers need to be returned to the library after your final exam. Laptops are $209 and chargers are $15 if not returned. Hotspots need to be returned ASAP. They are $249 if not returned. Fees will be charged to your schoolcashonline account.
Athletics
Thank you to all our athletes!
Congratulations to all of our mighty Bobcat athletes on an amazing year of games, competition, and community! We love your determination and spirit and all the opportunities you gave us to cheer and have fun and celebrate our Bobcat Nation! Cheers to you and thank you for all the memories!
Volleyball Tryouts
Volleyball tryouts are May 22nd and 23rd from 5-7pm. There is a volleyball parent meeting on the 24th at 5pm. For more information, contact Coach Gaines at lisa.gaines@mnps.org

Boys Basketball Tryouts
Boys’ basketball summer tryouts will be May 30th and May 31st, 11:00am-1pm. This tryout is for all grades. If you have any questions, contact Coach Hopson at john.hopson@mnps.org

Summer Programs and Camps
See the attached flyers for more information about each camp and how to register.
- Lipscomb AERO Program-This summer program is for graduating seniors who plan to study engineering at ANY post-secondary institution.
- Meharry Data Science Academy-FREE summer program for students in grades 9-12. Limited to 16 students.
- TSU Summer All Star Math Institute—Students must have an unweighted GPA of 2.5 or above and completed Algebra I or Integrated Math I.
- Nashville State Community College Summer Program—This program is for Class of 2023 graduates who are admitted to Nashville State for Fall 2023.
- Lipscomb Educator Scholars Camp--For 10th and 11th graders interested in a career in education.

Future Health Professionals, formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America, is an international career and technical student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Technology Education Division of ACTE. John Overton High School provides students many opportunities to enroll in advanced coursework. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves academically and take advantage of advanced courses that best align with their postsecondary aspirations and goals. Remote Learning Plan
Tennessee State Legislature House Bill 1964 requires all schools to have a plan in place that prepares the students and staff in the event that we should have to make an unpredicted shift to remote learning. All students should have access to a laptop (either school issued or personal).
Families who do not have internet because of economic hardship can apply to borrow a hotspot.

Bell Schedules
If we should have any inclement weather, it is possible that we would have a delay. If so, you can access our alternate schedules by clicking: Bell Schedules so you will know the class schedules for that day.
Homework Hotline
Free homework help and tutoring for students K to 12 is available from the Homework Hotline. It's a great resource and available Monday to Thursday 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call 615-298-6636. We offer help in: English, Arabic, Spanish, French, Hindi, and Farsi. https://homeworkhotline.info
Campus Portal
Campus Portal allows families to see real-time class and assignment grades, homework, test scores, upcoming due dates, attendance information, and discipline incidents.
To create your Campus Portal account, email Mr. Krech for your activation code: austin.krech@mnps.org.
Once you have a Campus Portal account, you can receive notifications through the mobile app.

Schoology Parent Account
Student work also can be reviewed in Schoology, the district's learning management system. Families can sign up to receive an update on student work via email from Schoology. To create your Schoology Parent account, email Lori Bervoets for your activation code: lwbervoets@mnps.org.
If you’re having trouble with your account, Ms. Bervoets can contact the appropriate providers for help.
MNPS has a new online payment system
Parents can create an account by visiting the SchoolCash Online webpage on our website. They can then attach their student(s) to their profile.
How to view the Newsletter in additional languages.
To translate the newsletter into another language, click anywhere on the newsletter so that it opens in a browser. At the top of the screen will be a "translate" dropdown box where you can choose which language and have it translated (see picture).
