The 1st IPR of the semester

Interim Progress Reports (IPR) were available on Home Access Center (HAC) through the CPS Families Portal at noon on Thursday, September 16th. Please go to the RBHS website for CPS Families Portal username and Guardian email information or for frequently ask questions.


Students wanting to drop a class for a study hall can do so without penalty through Monday, Sept. 20th. For classes dropped after Sept. 20th, students will receive a W/F (withdraw fail) on their first semester report card/transcript.

Parents picking up students after school

Please do not park in the Corporate Lakes area while you are waiting to pick up your student. These are not RBHS property and are taking up parking spaces for those businesses’ customers. Thank you!

Interested in a community service opportunity? Come help pick up trash in the football stadium this Saturday, September 25, at 9:00 am. The hour worked will count towards your A+ Scholarship hours.

Written Essay Contest

The VFW and VFW Auxiliary sponsors yearly contests for students of all grade levels to encourage personal growth and scholarship fostering a better understanding of and appreciation for our country. The 3 main contests are 'Patriots Pen', a 300-400 word written essay contest with an annual theme, for grades 6-8; and 'Voice of Democracy', a recorded oral essay also with an annual theme for grades 9-12 submitted with a typed essay. These must be submitted to the local VFW Post by October 31st. A third contest is the 'Young American Creative Patriotic Art’ contest for students grades 9-12. The deadline for this contest is March 31st.

A 4th contest is for the teachers. It's the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award Program. Teachers from K-12 are nominated for their commitment to teaching and promoting America's history, traditions and citizenship. These nominations are due to the Post by October 31st. The contests are open to students who are in public, parochial, private schools or home study programs in the United States and must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.

Entry forms can be downloaded from the VFW website at vfw.org/YouthScholarships. The Young American Patriotic Art Contest fillable form can be downloaded at vfwauxiliary.org/scholarships.

For more information about the Teacher program check the website at vfw.org/TeacheroftheYear. The local VFW Post in Columbia, MO is Boone County VFW Post 280 1509 Ashley St. 573-442-8413. Post chairman is Ed Miller and Auxiliary chairman is Georgina Coder.

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR COUNSELOR TRIVIA:

Over the past few weeks, we’ve featured all the RBHS Counselors on our Counseling Instagram page (@RBHSCounseling). Now we want to know how well you’ve been paying attention!


We will be posting trivia questions on our social media pages (Instagram and Twitter @RBHSGuidance)! Here’s what you need to do to participate:

  • Look for the trivia question of the day on Instagram and/or Twitter
  • Come to the Counseling Office and fill out a Trivia Answer Form
  • Every student with the correct answer will be entered into a daily raffle to win prizes!
  • TWO (2) winners will be drawn every day!


THIS WEEK’S PRIZE = FREE SHAKESPEARE’S PIZZA! Winners will receive a card for 2 slices and a drink from Shakespeare’s!

College Rep. Visits Have Started

Please refer to the College Visit Calendar on the RBHS website to get the latest dates/times of Colleges planning to visit RBHS. The list is being updated daily so check often. The calendar link is https://www.cpsk12.org/Page/8495#calendar9495/20210831/month. You can also access the college visits on SCOIR. Most visits will be “in person” in the Counseling Office. For those that are virtual there will be an attached link for the meeting. You are welcome to come to the counseling office to do virtual visits. This is your opportunity to learn more about a prospective University/College and get your questions answered by an admissions counselor. ACT and PSAT Important Informatition

ACT PREP OPPORTUNITIES:

We are excited to announce that we are continuing our partnership with Revolution Prep to offer two ACT Prep opportunities this fall before the Oct. 5th District ACT (for Seniors) and the Oct. 23rd National ACT date!

  1. ACT 101 Strategy Session: This is a 2-hour session designed to give students insight into the ACT exam as well as provide tips for test day. A professional tutor will teach core test-taking strategies, including a dive into the exam content and structure, how to avoid common traps, and how to create the best plan for success.

Date: Wednesday, Sept. 22nd from 10:00 a.m. – Noon (this is a Teacher Workday so students will not be in school)

*Cost: $15

Location: Live online via Zoom

  1. ACT Practice Test: Students who take the ACT Practice test also get a FREE individualized score review with an ACT professional. To register for your score review visit: www.revolutionprep.com/matt-hale.

Date: Saturday, Sept. 25th from 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

*Cost: $10

Location: Live online

*Students who have completed the Free/Reduced Lunch application in the Families Portal and qualify for FRL can get a fee waiver for both of these ACT Prep opportunities. See Mrs. Geyer in the Counseling Office if you need a fee waiver.


PSAT PREP OPPORTUNITIES:


This year we are excited to partner with Revolution Prep to provide PSAT Prep and a Practice PSAT test for our students! The PSAT Prep and Practice Test opportunities are open to both 10th and 11th grade students. There will be a “Rising Junior PSAT Prep” opportunity next semester as well.

ICO club meeting

Wednesday, October 5th @ 4:10 pm in Room 230

Teen Outreach Program (T.O.P.) is back.

We welcome past participants and new students. TOP is a fun after school club where participants get to have exciting discussions with their peers about teen-related topics, practice leadership skills, learn about emotion management, and help their community by completing various volunteer activities throughout the year. During the 2021-2022 school year, T.O.P. is meeting in-person at Rock Bridge and is also offering an online option via Zoom. In-person meetings start Monday September 20th. High School Zoom meetings are Thursdays from 4:30 – 5:30 pm. The link is here: https://linktr.ee/TeenOutreach

T.O.P. will meet every Monday after school OUTSIDE on the east side of the building. Look for T.O.P. leaders by the tables outside the main (east) entrance.

BOOSTER CLUB MEETING UPDATE

The Bruin Booster Club promotes school spirit & provides programs & financial support to the athletic teams & student-athletes of Rock Bridge High School (RBHS). Since 2003, the Booster Club has raised & allocated a significant amount of funds to benefit the Bruin athletic programs. Those who purchase a Booster Club membership will receive a pass (or passes) to attend all home athletic contests in all seasons. All money raised through membership dues stays at RBHS to support our student athletes, plus the pass can be less expensive than purchasing individual game tickets throughout a season.
