STEM Activity
Mrs. Sayre introduced what it is like to be an engineer to our classes. She read a book about a duck who was a janitor at a school and had the task of making an alphabet path around the school. He had to plan out how to make each letter and see if he had enough materials and be able to get it done in time. We had the challenge of making the first letter of our name out of materials that were given and see if we could get the letter to stand up! The results were pretty amazing! I think we will have many children going into engineering when they get older!
First week back...
Team building
We have new seats and new friends to sit with for the next four weeks so we worked together to come up with new table names to go with the dog theme and come up with a team cheer! Go Puppies!
Class building
What did we do over the winter break? The children had time to find out what their friends did with their time off and see the different places that people traveled to spend time with their families.
Second Steps
Mrs. Ross showed us and had us practice what we can do when we get really angry--take deep breaths slowly inhale and exhale, count backwards slowly, or find something we like to do that would calm us down.
Math
We started our Geometry unit and we thought we would have the children go on a scavenger hunt looking for 2d shapes in our room.
Math
After looking around the room for shapes, we met with partners and we shared our findings. We added to our lists any ones that we didn't find in the classroom.
Writing/Reading
We started our Poetry unit for reading and writing. We are reading and discussing the literature involved in poems during reading, and we are writing different types of poems for writing. So far, we did a list poem, and I wish poem and an acrostic poem. We did an alliteration poem with our buddies.
Top Dog
Tina was our Top Dog for 2017! She loves pizza and is pawsome at soccer and basketball. She wants to be a chief when she grows up.
Earl is very happy to have the house all to himself with everyone finally back to work!
Doggy Bag
1. Your child may bring in a poetry book from home to read during independent reading time. Please make sure there is a name on the inside so it gets returned.
2. Don't forget about the nightly reading logs.
3. Don't forget to practice the math flashcards.
4. Thanks for turning in the handwriting practice pages. No worries if you are still working on them. Your child can turn them in when they are done.
