Physical Exams/Immunizations for Kindergarten & 6th Grade Students
Dear Kindergarten and 6th grade parents/guardians,
The Illinois State School Code Health Law, Section 665, requires that a child have a complete physical examination, including mandated immunizations, upon entrance into kindergarten and 6th grade, and must be submitted by October 15th, 2020. The examination must have taken place after 8/21/2019, and required immunizations must be completed. Failure to submit these required documents may result in school exclusion. Please submit the exam as soon as possible, or contact the school nurses with any questions.
Last week I shared tips to keep moving even while we are bound to our computers all day. Another practice to implement while spending a lot of time on our computers & iPads is reducing the strain on our eyes. Did you know that people are less likely to blink when looking at a screen than when looking into the world or reading paper? That lack of blinking really dries out our eyes and causes undue strain on this very powerful organ. It’s also interesting to note that our eyes have to work harder to look at something close up rather than far away!
Here are some tips for your students to help maintain good eye care during this unique learning experience:
Reduce the intensity of the brightness on your screen; not only will it help conserve the battery, it will also reduce the strain on the eyeballs.
Try to remember to blink. Blinking frequently, using eye drops, or if at home using a humidifier to add moisture to the air will help maintain proper eye moisture.
Give your eyeballs a break by remembering the 20-20-20 Rule:
Take a 20 second break, Every 20 minutes, By looking at something 20 feet away

Oak Grove Virtual Choir
ATTENTION ALL 4TH-8TH GRADERS!
The Oak Grove Choirs are going to begin next week (the week of Sept. 28). This year will look a little different because we will be rehearsing virtually (not in person). We will learn music through Google Meets and then the students will record themselves individually. The recordings will be combined to form a virtual choir. The more students we have involved, the better the recordings will be! Anyone interested in joining should attend the first google meet next week.
The Junior High Choir (Grades 6,7,8) will meet on Tuesdays from 3:30-4pm and the 4th and 5th Grade choir will meet on Thursdays from 3:30-4pm. The google meet code will be: OGChoir. I look forward to seeing you next week! Let me know if you have any questions!
