Severance High School Strength & Conditioning Camp--SUMMER
Severance High School will be conducting a Strength and Conditioning Camp for all SHS students. The camp will be held at Severance High School and run in the morning on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from June 1st to July 27th, 2021. Camp attendees will participate in sports performance training to improve their strength, speed, agility, power, coordination and mobility. Camp participants will receive a t-shirt (which seniors will be asked to design) and have the opportunity to train with their teammates in a safe, organized environment.
Camp revenue will create a yearly operating budget for the SHS Strength & Conditioning Program and PE classes that utilize the weight room. ALL fees generated will be put towards purchasing and updating equipment for SHS Strength & Conditioning weight room, not towards coaches pay.
Times and group assignments will be:

German Corner
The Right “Stuff”
One of my students asked me recently “Herr Scheffing, how do you say, ‘drum set’ in German?” I drew a blank, so I looked it up. Of course, it was a word I knew but had relegated to my passive vocabulary. “Drumset” is “das Schlagzeug” in German. The word “Zeug” is a fun, multipurpose word that means “stuff” or “thing”. “Zeug” can refer to one thing or multiple things. You even see it as part of other words. “Airplane” in German is “Flugzeug (flying thing)”. “Toy” in German is “Spielzeug (thing you play with). You can even say “Matches/lighter” in German as “Feuerzeug (fire thing)”. Next time you’re at a flea market or a store in Germany, take a look at what is on the shelf and ask “Was ist das für ein Zeug? (What is that thing?).” Bis nächste Woche!

“Weld RE-4 Heroes” Weld RE-4 Education Foundation 2021 Essay Contest
In our Weld RE-4 community, we have many different individuals who have an impact on our students’ education on a daily basis: teachers, administrators, counselors, bus drivers, crossing guards and other staff members. They all play an important part in creating an environment for innovation and success for our students. Each one makes a difference in our children’s lives every day.
As part of celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week, the Weld RE-4 Education Foundation is inviting all students enrolled in the Weld RE-4 School District to participate in our annual essay contest, telling us about their “Weld RE-4 Hero.” Essays will be judged based on the quality and sincerity of the student’s writing (taking into consideration the student’s grade level) and the compelling story of how the featured hero has made a difference for that student.
PRIZES:
Students: One winner will be selected from each of the following grade categories:
Pre-K to 2nd grade, 3rd-5th grade, middle school (6th – 8th grades) and high school (9th – 12th grades). The student winner in each category will receive a $100 prize donated by the Windsor branch of Bank of Colorado.
Heroes: The “Hero” from the district honored in each of the first-place essays will receive a
$50 gift certificate to Knowledge Bound, donated by Knowledge Bound and Greg Backhaus, financial advisor with Edward Jones in Windsor.
CONTEST RULES:
• Entries may be dropped off at the school district office at 1020 Main Street in Windsor by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14th. Essays may be mailed to the Foundation at the district office, but must be post-marked no later than May 14th. Entries can also be e-mailed to Education_Foundation@weldre4.k12.co.us.
No late entries will be accepted.
• Each essay submitted should have the entry form completed and attached. DO NOT PLACE THE PARTICIPANT’S NAME ON THE ESSAY ITSELF; all essays will be judged anonymously by a committee of volunteers selected by the Foundation. Winners will be determined in the judges’ sole discretion based upon the criteria stated above.
• The contest is open to all students enrolled in the Weld RE-4 school district; one entry per student.
• Maximum length: Two pages typed, using double-spacing and 12-pt type. Handwritten entries are allowed for pre-K to 2nd grade participants.
• All entries may be publicly disseminated, including in print and social media; a copy of each essay will also be provided to the Weld RE-4 hero honored by the student.
• Winners will be announced honored at the June school board meeting. Photos of the winners will be taken at that meeting and made public.
• Questions should be directed to Heather Kintz at 686-8090 or Education_Foundation@weldre4.org
SELECTION OF WINNER:
All entries will be judged by a panel of judges selected by the Board of Directors of the Educational Foundation. Winners will be determined in the judges’ sole discretion, based upon the following criteria: compelling nature of teacher’s inspiring qualities, sincerity of student’s appreciation, and the quality of expression and writing (taking into consideration the student’s grade level).
Questions should be directed to Heather Kintz at
970-686-8090 or Education_Foundation@weldre4.k12.co.us
Weld RE-4 Education Foundation 2021 Thank-A-Teacher Program
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Over the past 8 years, the Foundation has raised more than one million dollars to put countless more tools for innovation and collaboration into the hands of our students. Those tools include over a thousand Chromebook computers and iPads, musical instruments, 3D printers, robotics equipment, and so much more. As part of Teacher Appreciation Week in May, we invite you to participate in our seventh annual “Thank a Teacher” program, through which you can honor your child’s teacher(s) in a unique way and help us continue this important mission to foster innovation and empower success in our schools.
Through this program, each teacher or staff member within the district who is honored by a donation of $10 or more will receive a certificate of appreciation from the Education Foundation that will include the name of the family/student making the donation (it will not include the amount of the contribution). Multiple gifts may be made if you would like to donate at least $10 per teacher honored.
Please complete the form below to participate and THANK A TEACHER!
