ThunderRidge Weekly Update
April 21, 2023
Patterson's Perspective
Grizzly Families,
Tonight is a big night for our upperclassmen as they take part in the milestone of Prom. For the seniors, this occasion marks one of their final opportunies to bond as a class before graduation.
I wish them all a memorable and safe night.
I hope you all enjoy the extended weekend before we enter the home stretch of the school year. Thank you for your continued support.

Seeking Parent Members for the School Accountability Committee (SAC)
We are seeking candidates to run for the TRHS School Accountability Committee (SAC).
If you are a parent/guardian of a TRHS student who will be enrolled in the 2023/2024 school year and are interested in serving on this parent-led committee, we would love to have you run!
SAC meetings are public and open to all. Members of the SAC, which include parents/guardians elected by their peers, a PTO representative elected by the PTO, a teacher representative elected by their peers, a community member appointed by the Principal, and the Principal, have voting privileges and advise the school's administration on various issues. Responsibilities for all members are parent/guardian views on topics the SAC addresses including, but not limited to: budgetary decisions, the Unified Improvement Plan, and safety issues.
Terms for elected members are two years and are staggered for continuity. Members attend six SAC meetings during the school year. Meetings run no more than 90 minutes and are currently held in the late afternoon. Exact scheduling will be determined with members at the first SAC meeting of the school year.
There are currently three open positions. If more than three candidates are interested in serving on the SAC, we will conduct an election. Each TR parent/guardian will be allowed to vote. Once the voting window (TBD) has closed and the votes are tallied, the top vote-getters will be announced.
After the elected parent members of the 2023/2024 school year have been identified, election to officer positions within the SAC can be conducted according to the bylaws. More information can be found on the TRHS website under the Parent tab.
If you are interested in becoming a voting member of our SAC, please send your name and a short paragraph introducing yourself and why you would like to serve on SAC to
trhssac@gmail.com. Please respond by May 5 if you're interested.
Please direct any questions you may have to our current members at trhssac@gmail.com.
Thank you for your consideration.
IB Update
Recently in the IB world we have been focusing on the Middle Years Programme for our 9th and 10th grade students. A few weeks ago the sophomores here at Thunderridge High School engaged in the IB MYP Personal Project. The Personal Project is a self-directed inquiry that allows students to explore and demonstrate their learning, skills, and creativity in an area of personal interest. The project can take many different forms, depending on the student's interests and passions. It could be a research project, a product, an event, or a performance. Students are encouraged to choose a topic that is meaningful to them, and that allows them to explore their own passions and interests.
Our students here at TRHS had some amazing projects ranging from improving their culinary skills to learning a new language to giving back to their communities and more. The teachers at TR came together to grade the Personal Projects and were impressed with how great so many of our Grizzlies did. This is a great sign for the future Senior Projects that the class of 2025 is going to produce!

Chris Tabeling Memorial Scholarship Opportunity Closes Today (4/21)
The Chris Tabeling scholarship is in honor of ThunderRidge Principal Chris Tabeling. Mr.Tabeling was a true Grizzly who had a passion for this school and a love for every student at TRHS. He came to work every day even throughout his difficult battle with cancer, and he always had a smile on his face and worked to ensure everyone felt welcome. Mr. Tabeling wanted to make sure that ThunderRidge maintained its reputation as one of the best high schools in Colorado and continue the TR traditions that have been instilled in each and every one of us. His love for ThunderRidge was obvious to everyone who knew him.
This scholarship goes to an individual who exemplifies the same love and passion for ThunderRidge. They see everyone as equal, willing to help others, and gives back to the community. The recipient is involved in a multitude of activities and carries themselves in a positive manner. They truly are a GRIZZLY.
