Curriculum Night:
Our Curriculum Night is next Thursday Sept. 6th! It will be very similar to last year. It will be from 6:00-7:30. There will be two sessions you will facilitate. The first session will be from 6:00-6:30. The second session will begin at 6:45-7:15. This allows families with children in multiple classrooms to be able to go to both. In addition, we must also have a “Title 1 information” session. I will be doing this twice as well during these same times. Following the sessions in your classrooms the PTB will be hosting a social with a frozen treat beginning at 6:45 out on the playground.
School attendance:
Being at school on time, everyday, is an important part of your child’s school success. We encourage families who may have any barriers to regular and punctual attendance to contact school staff so that together we can come up with effective solutions. The expectation is for students to be here each and every day unless they are too sick for school, defined by a fever of 100 or higher, vomiting or diarrhea. Missing over 10 days of school per year is considered excessive and greatly affects children’s ability to connect with peers and stay caught up with classroom instruction, not to mention all the fun they miss when they are not at school!
PTB News:
PTB Meeting:
Our first PTB meeting of the year is Tuesday, September 11th at 6pm in La Sala. We will be discussing school events, school communication and volunteer activities. We will also have a representative from the Beaverton City Library to talk about all the programs and activities they have for students. Free activities and food provided for children of those attending! Come connect with other Barnes families, hear from our principal, and learn about all the school and community events coming up!
September Dining for Dollars:
Our first Dining for Dollars will be Tuesday, September 18th at the Cedar Hills McMenamins! Go to McMenamin’s anytime between 5pm and close and half of all food and drink sales will be donated to Barnes! Be sure to spread the word!
Get Ready to Volunteer!
Are you interested in volunteering in your students classroom? Going on field trips? Helping with Barnes events and activities? All volunteers must have a current background check on file. If you are new to Barnes or new to volunteering at Barnes, please go to this webpage link and complete a background check application.
All volunteers must sign-in and out on the computer in front of the office and wear a volunteer name badge when you come in to volunteer. Attached are some helpful hints for using our volunteer system: myvolunteerpage.com
If you have any questions about volunteering, please email the Barnes Volunteer Coordinators at: barnesvolunteercoordinator@gmail.com.
Preschool information:
Starting on September 24th, we will have two preschool classes here at Barnes. The classes will be on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. There will not be classes on Wednesday. These are half day programs. The morning session will be from 8:00-11:00 AM and the instruction will be delivered in English. The afternoon session will be from 11:30-2:35 and instruction will be in Spanish. Transportation will be provided.
We still have some spots available! Please spread the word about this program to anyone you know who might be interested. Contact the office for more information.
Wednesday Early Release:
Every Wednesday, all students in the Beaverton School District are dismissed 90 minutes early at 1:05. Teachers receive professional development during that time. We value this time greatly, and realize that it may provide challenges to you and your family. Early releases will begin next Wednesday, Sept. 5, and be every Wednesday through the year.
