Staff Culture Building Activity: Guzick's 12 Magical Days of Holiday Cheer!
This week we continue our 12 Magical Days of Holiday Cheer! Let's continue to celebrate the last days of the Fall semester with special holiday cheer!
United Way $1 Donation = Free Jean Pass on Tuesday, December 11, 2018
I sent out an email on Friday to encourage participation in a District giving initiative, the United Way. I am asking each Giant staff member to donate $1 so we can reach our 100% campus participation. Mrs. Willis will be collecting your contribution and handing out a jean pass for each staff member who contributes. I appreciate your support and encourage your participation in this worthy cause.
Guzick Basketball Teams
The boys will be playing their first round playoff game, Monday, December 10, 2018 at 5:00pm at Guzick. The girls will be playing Mockingbird Elementary School, Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 5:00pm at Guzick. Let's support our girls, boys, and Coach Strickland by showing up! Bring banners, noise makers, anything that will help cheer our basketball teams to a victory!

Guzick Expectatations for Excellence in Instruction - Test Prep Best Practices
We have four-five days to make a huge impact on student academic success this Fall. Let's ensure that every moment of every day counts!
Here are a few test preparation best instructional practices that you can implement to ensure student success:
- Follow your Instructional Planning Calendars/Lesson Plans to ensure that all tested standards are reviewed continuously throughout the next few days.
- Assess student progress throughout the lesson using high leverage questions coupled with multiple response strategies, continuous checks for understanding tasks, and mixed review DOL's.
- Using the formative assessment data that is gathered throughout the lesson, utilize independent practice time to re-teach misconceptions at the small group table.
- Aggressively Monitor! Aggressively Monitor! Aggressively Monitor!
- Build student confidence and self-efficacy by praising students for their hard work and efforts and encouraging students to remain focused.
Timeliness
7:15am - Morning Duty
7:35am - Most staff member's clock-in time
7:35am - 7:40am - Pick-up students from auditorium or hallway
7:45am - Hallways clear of entire classes
Classroom Doors - To remain open/cracked unless testing
REMINDER: Annual Policy and Compliance Acknowledgement - Due by December 20th
All staff received an email with a link to complete your Annual Policy and Compliance Acknowledgement. If you have not completed this task yet, please do so as soon as possible. Please note that you will receive a reminder email possibly every week until the task is complete. The hard deadline is December 20th.
FYI: For new staff, this is different from Compliance Videos. Compliance videos are completed in Cornerstone.
REMINDER: Tutoring or After School Student Club/Activity Cancellation Protocol
Teachers,
Please ensure that you follow the protocol below when cancelling tutoring. It is important that our front office is aware of any changes to tutoring for all teachers as parents typically call the front office to confirm changes.
24 hours in advance
- Send notice home to parents (via email, Class Dojo, letter, phone call, etc.).
- Send an email to Mrs. Mendoza and Mrs. Willis with the date of cancellation
Less than 24 hours in advance (extreme emergency)
- Make contact with all parents via phone (only email if this is the parent's 1st preference to receive contact)
- Send an email to Mrs. Mendoza and Mrs. Willis with the date of cancellation
REMINDER: PBIS System
As we continue to encourage positive student behavior, let us be reminded of a few teacher/staff expectations regarding the system.
- Remind students to show H.E.A.R.T. in everything that they do. Use the terminology and highlight students for exhibiting the positive H.E.A.R.T. characteristics.
- Students SHOULD NOT escort themselves or other students to the PAC center or main office. If a student receives their fourth infraction (yellow form), then the teacher should press the black button and an administrator or staff member will come to the room to retrieve the student.
- Students are only assigned to ISS or a cool off in the PAC center by an administrator.
Remember, CONSISTENCY is the key to ensure that our students understand the importance of being good students. Discipline with DIGNITY and with H.E.A.R.T.
REMINDER: Minimize Hallway Traffic
