New Calendar
Piedmont Academy has changed the schedule for the 2018-2019 school year! The students and faculty usually begin school around the tenth of August, but this year, school begins September fourth. The students will end school in 2019 officially on May 24th. Instead of dismissing at 2:47, the students will dismiss at 3:05. Each class period will be 63 minutes long, and there will only be six periods. The spring break, Thanksgiving, and Christmas breaks will remain the same number of days. When Mr. Tanner was asked why he recommended changing the schedule, he said, “August is the hottest month of the year; therefore, our air conditioner will have to run the most in August. This will save money if the school year starts later. As long as we go the number of minutes per year the accreditation requires, it does not matter the number of days.” The total number of accreditation minutes is 59,400 minutes, and Piedmont Academy will exceed this in the 2018-2019 school year.

Devotional
"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain." Hebrews 6:19
Hebrews chapter 13, verse eight tells the readers that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Although our God never changes, our circumstances often do. The Israelites are great examples of people who had lived in the past and were struggling with trusting God’s plan. In Isaiah 43:18, God says, “But forget all that — it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.” The Israelites were in captivity, but God set them free. They knew what God had done for them, but they could not let go of their former problems. God was offering them new lives with His freedom. He instructs them to let go of the past and be prepared for his new plans for their lives and situations.
Whether our situation is good or bad, God wants us to know that He is secure and full of hope. Because we have God, we have hope and comfort. Security is not something that is seen in the average person’s day-to-day life. Change is very common, and God wants us to understand change is okay! He will be with us firmly and security when the world around us is chaotic. We have the hope of God with us today and every day for eternity.

School Improvements
There have been a few new improvements that have been made to Piedmont Academy recently. One exciting improvement that has been made to the school is that the office has been newly painted. Former Piedmont teacher and coach, Alvin Hawks, has a new painting company called A.F. Hawk Painting LLC. He was hired to paint the office, and the office now looks brand new. All of the windows in the school have been replaced as well. Another change that has been made is that a cabinet was purchased to keep students' cell phones in. Piedmont bought a cabinet to hold the cell phones of all students from 7th-12th grade during the day. It is kept in the clinic until the end of the school day. With the money made from the Giving Back Campaign, we hope for many more new improvements to our school.

Poem
Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear
As you live your life, your future is not always clear
When you are born, you have your whole life to live
And along with that, you have a lot of love to give
You grow more and more every year
So with each moment, let out every tear
As you live life, you tend to forget
To appreciate each moment without any regret
With people you love, you should be sincere
When you meet people, always spread love and cheer
Before you know it, your life could change
What you wanted to do would be out of range
Over time, your life seems to veer
It seems to become increasingly clear
That life tends to mimic what’s read on a car
What recently seemed to be very far
You now realize was actually near
Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear
