The Weekly Hoot

June 17-23, 2013

Greetings All -

As I wrote the date of this Hoot I realized we are already halfway through June! That is crazy! I hope all of you are having a great summer so far. I am taking Morgan, along with three of her friends and two of my friends, to Galveston this coming weekend for her 21st birthday. Excited and sad at the same time because my baby is no "officially" an adult.

Christy, Connie Wetuski, and I went to TEPSA last week in Austin. We are buzzing with new information for all of you and have some great ideas about how to streamline RtI a little better, character education, and professional learning communities. We have a busy summer ahead of us getting everything outlined and in tip top shape.

When I got back from TEPSA, it was evident that the custodial and maintenance staff have been very busy getting room floors waxed and cleaned. It looks like the red hall is complete and they are now about halfway through the yellow hall. I will keep you posted as more rooms are available to enter.

I have made one of the priorities this week be to interview for our new special education instructional assistant. I hope by next week that I am able to say all positions for next year have been secured.

Speaking of positions, the majority of today was spent having all of our new teachers in to sign their contracts. I wanted to introduce them to you via the Hoot.

Our new 1st grade teacher is Jamie Mock. She comes to us from Montgomery Elementary School in Montgomery, Texas where she has been teaching Kindergarten and Pre-First for 7 years. She, her husband Ken, and their two daughters, Macy and Carley, will be moving to Anderson this summer. Macy will be a 1st grader this year and Carley will be in PK.

Our new 2nd grade teacher is Mendi Wellborn. She comes to us from John C. Webb Elementary School in Navasota, Texas where she has been teaching 1st grade for 3 years. Her husband, Eric, and she have a 3 year old daughter named Emie.

Our new 4th grade self-contained teacher is April Bay. She has been teaching 4th grade for 5 years in Richards. She is married to Andy Bay, and they have two sons, Wacey and Jett. Wacey will be in Kindergarten here this year and Jett is 2 years old.

Lastly, we had a meeting this morning with the architects on the construction of our new addition. The proposed timeline is to begin construction in November with everything being finished by August. When we get together at some point this summer, I will hopefully have some blueprints for you to see!

Everyone have a great week and try to do as much fun stuff as you can!

Soaring with you this year,
