Middle School Walkathon
Today was the MS Walkathon at Elisa Carver Park. Each year students get sponsors to walk a minimum of 10 miles. This year we had a number of students walk/run more than the 10 mile goal. I am told that one student, Camron Sellers, walked/ran 20 miles, just 6.2 miles short of a marathon. In fact, if you happened to drive by Elisa Carver Park on your way home from school today you may have seen some determined students still going. We even had some awesome parents join today and support, encourage and challenge our students.
Praying for our kids
Our weekly prayer group for Dads will launch again next Friday morning at 7:50 am in front of the elementary building. Men, please linger with us for a few minutes to connect and pray together.
School Shirts are Here
This week your child will be coming home with one of this year's 2023-2024 KAES school shirts. This shirt is to be worn on school field trips and can also be worn on Mondays. Please look at the sizing to see if it fits as you would like. Extra shirts will be available for sale at $15.00 and will be available in the school office starting Tuesday.
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be Oct. 23
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be Oct. 23. As the first quarter ends we want to take a few minutes to meet with parents and guardians about how your child is doing at this point in the year. October 23 will not be a regular day of classes in order to have more time to meet with you and other parents. Instead parents will be able to schedule a time to meet with their child's teacher to discuss progress and how growth can be encouraged. Grade reports and MAP test results will be shared and discussed at this meeting.
KAES uses “SIGNUP GENIUS" to schedule parent/teacher meetings. A link to the online scheduling site “SIGNUP GENIUS” will be sent out Monday, October 16 after 4:00 pm for you to choose a meeting time with your child's teacher. Please remember that signups are available on a first come, first serve basis. You are to only sign up with your child's homeroom teacher. Meetings are limited to 15 minutes to make time for all parents. If you are unable to get a time that fits your schedule, please contact your child's teacher and request to meet some time that week after school. Teachers will do their best to accommodate parents after school.
Remember, parents of middle school will meet with their child's homeroom teacher. If you want to also meet with a subject area teacher, please feel free to contact them and request a meeting on a different day after school.
Picture Day is next Friday Oct. 13.
Get your calendars out and mark Oct. 13 as picture day. Students should come in their Friday chapel uniform. Class pictures will also be taken and these pictures will be used in the yearbook. In the spring we will offer a photo day when students do not have to be in uniform. Materials have been sent home so you can order pictures.
Prospera comes to KAES to talk about handwashing
Next Wednesday, October 11 at 10 am Prospera will be visiting to tell our kids about good health through handwashing. Students will have fun playing games, watching skits and participating in demonstrations all centered around good hygiene.
The Young Peacemaker - Week 5
I have included an outline of what was discussed and taught this week. My hope is that this can benefit your family at home just as much as at school. Remember your child should already be familiar with these ideas.
“He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy” (Prov. 28:13)
(The big Idea) The blame game makes conflict worse.
(The main points)
1. Playing the blame game
Playing the blame game is a choice that has consequences. There are five ways that people play the blame game.
Blame someone else for your choice.
Cover up what you did wrong in hopes that no one will find out.
Make excuses for doing something wrong or not doing something right.
Pretend that something you did is not your fault.
- Lie about what you did.
When you make a bad choice and then choose to play the blame game, you may get a consequence for each choice. This is double trouble. Bad choice + Blame game = DOUBLE TROUBLE
3. Feeling like a victim
Playing the blame game can give you an excuse to feel like a victim. Victims believe that their problems are always someone else’s fault. Playing the blame game makes you feel as if you are at the mercy of other people.
4. Resisting the blame game
God wants you to know that there is freedom in using self-control and in making wise choices that please him. God wants you to be a victor over your sinful responses toward others by taking control of your own choices no matter what others do.
