Some important information for this week....

School Building Update

We have so many great things happening at our school right now! First of all, we have a brand new technology cart that will be up and running this week. Our cart will house 7 new Chromebooks that we were able to purchase with our Technology budget this year, along with 15 iPads that we have relocated from different areas within the school. This will allow classrooms to now sign out 1 of 2 carts at any point during the week so that technology can enhance our learning. We have also been able to purchase 8 new Chromebooks for our library that are located in a tower on the main post in the middle of this space.

Speaking of the library - our transformation has begun! The old furniture we no longer needed has been moved - and the area feels so much more spacious :) Over time as old technology is removed and we no longer need the big desks, our plan is continue to open up the space and add in more flexible and comfortable seating - moving to a true learning commons space.

This past week we also received word that our request for some new doors has been approved. Currently we have gym doors and doors near Mrs. Rees' room that are challenging for people with accessibility issues. We acknowledge the importance of an accessible building for all and are very appreciative that the board is supporting us moving forward. Over March break, the board will be installing new doors in each of these locations :)

Under One Sun orders

Only 24 hours to go to put in your online orders for our Under One Sun Fundraiser! We appreciate all your support for this great fundraiser.

School Council Meeting

We were fortunate to welcome Superintendent Peter Mangold to our November 20th School Council meeting. Given the lively discussion that we had regarding the proposed Crestwood Intermediate School, we ran out of time for our regular Council business. We have rescheduled our meeting for this Thursday, December 5th at 6:30pm in the library. Please join us!

Kawartha Heights Food Drive

Next week we'll be collecting for our annual Kawartha Heights Food Drive in support of the Salvation Army. We will also be collecting warm hats, mitts and socks for the Youth Emergency Shelter. We are fortunate that Mrs. Rees' class has offered to lead this wonderful initiative! Stay tuned for more information in next week's Parent Peek at the Week.

The Paper Bag Princess

On December 17th (Grades 3/4 - Grade 6) and December 18th (Kindergarten - Grade 2/3) our whole school will be attending the presentation of the Paper Bag Princess put on by the Peterborough Theatre Guild. Look for permission forms coming home on Monday. We are looking forward to having this special theatre experience together before the holidays.

Winter is here!

Now that the cold weather has arrived, please make sure that your children are bundled up when they leave for school! We go outside twice a day for 20 minutes at a time, as well as before school. Please make sure students have snow pants, boots, hats and mitts. An extra pair of socks and mittens is never a bad idea to have in school bags....just in case!

Festive Fridays

This Friday is the second of our official Festive Fridays. Let's show some great school spirit and dress FANCY this Friday!

Big picture

Such a caring community!

Kawartha Heights is such a special place to be - and we are so fortunate to have community members who are kind and caring. This week we were appreciatve of Mrs. Baker who knit and provided mittens to all students at Kawartha Heights. Our hands had an extra little warm hug this week! We are also very appreciative of our partnership with a fantastic group of students at Fleming College who built and provided us with a new mud kitchen for the Kindergarten yard. We are very grateful for all the support from our amazing community!

Just one more thing.....

Kindness is something we need to model for our children every day in every way we can. In the month of December, showing a little extra kindness can go a long way - especially for those who can find the holidays challenging. Below is a wonderful resource from that reminds us that acts of kindness can be small, but still impactful. Why not choose just 1 or 2 actions for kindness that you can do as a family this month?
