Arctic Blast
Glacier Ridge Elementary School 01.10.20
Dear Glacier Ridge Families,
We have had a busy week after returning from Winter Break. Our students are working hard and giving their best on our district assessments. Thank you to our PTA, Mrs. Seisser and NIU hockey for putting together the hockey outing this Saturday. There are still tickets available (they are free) and we would love for you to join us!
Have a wonderful and safe wintry weekend!

The NIU Huskies D1 Men's Hockey team has invited us to catch a game at Canlan Ice Center in West Dundee January 11th. Click above for more details and to secure your tickets.

Crystal Lake Friends of the Gifted Big Book Blast Sale is coming January 24th and 25th!
It is that time of the year when we ask you take some time and go through your bookshelves and book collections to see if you have any great books you are ready to donate to support a fabulous fundraiser! All gathered books need to be sent in to Glacier Ridge and placed in the shopping cart by the front doors so they can be part of the sale. We need all donations by Thursday, January 16th.
Once these books are all collected, they are sorted and then sold in a fantastic book sale at the end of the month - January 24th and 25th - in most cases for only $1 per book! This book sale is the biggest fundraiser CLFOGE (Crystal Lake Friends of Gifted Education) has each year and the money raised helps support District 47 schools and outside activities to challenge all our children. Whether you donate or not, you can find some wonderful new reads at the sale on Friday, January 24th (9 am - 7 pm) and Saturday, January 25th (9 am-4 pm) at the Algonquin District Township Hall located at 3702 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.
If you have any questions, contact Ms. Thomas glthomas@d47.org. Please help us to both raise money and help yourself acquire some great new reading choices at prices that can't be passed up!
Girls on the Run
GOTR is an after school program like no other! Twice a week for 10 weeks, girls will have fun, make friends, increase their physical activity levels and learn import life skills. Click here to learn more about the program. Registration opens January 8th.
Coaches Needed - This is indeed a wonderful program, but it cannot run without coaches. GR is slated as a host location, and we are looking for coaches. If we are unable to secure enough GR will not be listed as a host location. Click here to learn more about what being a coach involves.
Student Cell Phone Use - Please read!
To provide a distraction-free teaching and learning environment, District 47’s current cell phone guidelines (outlined in the 2019-20 student handbook) will be strictly enforced starting January 2020 (after winter break). See below:
Cell Phones, Smartwatches, etc.
Elementary - Students are allowed to have a cell phone or smartwatch at school as long as it is turned off and remains in the student’s locker at all times during the school day. (NOTE: Elementary school lockers do not lock and the school/district is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen personal property.)
PLEASE NOTE: With the fast-paced changes in technology, District 47 will treat any electronic device that has the capability to call, text, and take photos, as a cell phone/smartwatch violation at any grade level if it causes a disruption to the school environment.
