Device Distribution Update from Technology Services!

We thank parents and students for their patience as we work to distribute the more than 44,000 Chromebooks and 13,000 hotspots that have been requested. If you requested a device, you will be notified of your assigned pick-up date as soon as possible, if you have not already. Thank you for understanding that we need to limit the number of people who are notified to ensure distribution sites can maintain social distancing. This is for the protection of families, staff and volunteers. Please do not attempt to pick up your device until you receive your pick-up date.

***If you have a Chromebook from the spring that is damaged or is no longer working properly, please take the broken / damaged device to the Device Distribution Center at South Garner High School. Staff from technology services will be there to support you.

Device Distribution Center hours for this week are:

  • Monday - Friday - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday - 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

If you need to request a Chromebook or Hot Spot, please complete this form.

Principal's Message!

Eagle Parents,

Thank you so much for your support this week! Because of your patience, communication, and partnership with us, we have successfully completed our first week of Remote Learning / Virtual Academy and we have connected with 99% of our students!

Classes will continue to operate on an Orientation Schedule next week as students and teachers continue to adjust and as many families await notification that their Chromebooks are ready for pick-up.

Thank you for making sure your child joins their class meetings and completes their independent work each day.

If you are still waiting for a device, and you have not been given a phone number and code to call into Morning Meetings, please ask your child's teacher for that information.

Additionally, if you are using a family computer, and your child is running into access issues, I encourage you to log out of all personal accounts and select "Browse as Guest". This will alleviate confusion about which sites and applications your child has access to. Here are video instructions for browsing as a guest.

*Finally, please be mindful of background noise / conversations when your child's mic is not muted even if your child is wearing headphones.

***We are still enrolling students. If you have not yet registered a kindergartner or if you know of a family, friend, or relative in the area that is not yet registered for school, please send them to us. Homeschool families are welcome to participate in our Virtual Academy!***

Families and Schools Together

The Families and Schools Together (FAST) Initiative strives to bring community partners together to help address the childcare crisis facing our community. FAST is a collaboration of the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), WakeEd Partnership, and key out of school time childcare providers and community organizations in Wake County. Please click this link to see all the options available, including the Poole Family YMCA, and to register.

Additionally, Christy's DancExplosion and Heather Park Child Care Center (KinderCare) have shared that they are also offering remote learning solutions for our families.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

KidzArt will be offering virtual live art classes Tue/Thu at 4pm each week, starting Sep 8. Students (k-5th) can join for 1 or 2 days a week, and each day we will teach a new project and each week there will be new art supplies to experience. Parents can purchase supplies from us and we can delivery it to their home for free. At the end of our 6 weeks session, students will be able to invite family and friends to join them for a Virtual Art Show to showcase their achievements. More info is available on our website www.northraleigh.kidzart.com.

*Tuition collected from students on 8/27 will be donated to our school.

Each session will include hands-on fun with supplies shipped directly to parents. We will have a 10:1 ratio of students to scientists to make sure all kids have an awesome time. The early bird fee is $59, with $5 going back to our school when parents sign up with our code: GIVEBACK471. The fee goes up to $69 7 days before they start to ensure items can be shipped in time.

Single Subject Acceleration

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools were forced to close March 13, 2020. The closure of schools prevented students from participating in the testing necessary to qualify for Single Subject Acceleration (SSA). Students are typically tested in the Spring of the previous school year for an accelerated placement for the upcoming school year. As a result of COVID-19, the Advanced Learning Service team has created testing plans to respond to the three instructional environments that may take place during the 2020-2021 school year. Learn more. Parents who are interesting in nominating a student for testing should email Cammie Viverette at cviverette@wcpss.net before August 28.
