Alumni Check-In

Mr. Simmons, one of our High School Social Studies teachers, took his daughter to visit the campus of Tiffin University. He arranged to meet and check in with some of our alumni, Devontay Mansfield (Class of 22') & Alexis Bhagmath (Class of 22').

Mr. Simmons, Mr. Ruebensaal, & Mr. Schuerger also had the opportunity to visit Class of 21' Alumni Abigail Laurenti at Kent State University. Abby is doing great as a Sophomore majoring in political science. She is also thinking about being a teacher!

Even though they have graduated, the success of our alumni is very important to both to our staff and our school community.

Mayor Bradley visits Horizon Science Academy of Lorain

Lorain's very own Mayor Jack Bradley visited Horizon to read to our kindergarten students. He read 'Duck for Mayor' by Doreen Cronin. The students loved hearing the silly story of duck running for various offices. Mayor Bradley used the tale to explain to the children how voting works.

Dedication of 'The Dr. Yakup Cetin Auditorium'

On Friday September 16th Horizon Science Academy of Lorain held a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate our auditorium to our former teacher, Dr. Yakup Cetin. It was a beautiful event, and we are honored to have this auditorium here to keep Dr. Cetin's memory alive in this building for years to come.

Kindergarten visits Miller's Apple Hill Orchard

On Tuesday September 20th, all three of our kindergarten classes enjoyed a trip to Apple Hill Orchard. The trip started off with a tractor pulled hayride into the orchard where the kids enjoyed picking apples. Afterwards, the staff at the orchard explained how the apple trees change during the seasons. They even explained the proper way to pick an apple-- lift, twist, pull! The kindergarteners finished off their trip meeting the farm animals and playing on the playground.

Daughter Dance

Horizon held the 2022 Daughter Dance on Friday September 23rd. This is the first dance in the building since the pandemic began, so it was very exciting for our students. We had over 250 girls with their family members attend. Each and every one was 'dressed to the nines' and enjoyed an evening of dancing, coloring, and food.

Exciting Updates About Our Media Overhaul

As you may already know, we have moved from ConceptSIS to PowerSchool this year. We also recently launched our new website. No worries though, it's still the same URL. You can visit by clicking weblink in the newsletter footer.

We also started our social media overhaul. Our new Facebook is live. You can click the Facebook button in the newsletter's footer below to be automatically routed to our new page. Don't forget to hit the 'like' button and follow us to stay up to date on all our important news and events. The old Facebook page is no longer active, and will disappear completely on December 1st.
