GMS Principal's Corner
October 17, 2021
Dear Galvin Families,
We hope you had a great weekend and continued to enjoy the beautiful fall weather. The Galvin building has been a busy place since Friday morning. Service Master and Continental Clean Air have been here almost around the clock and are making significant progress. We are very hopeful that we will be granted permission to occupy the building before the end of this week and will keep you updated as we know more.
In the meantime, we are very grateful that the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has granted us an emergency waiver to hold school remotely this week. This waiver allows up to keep instruction and learning as consistent and engaging as it would be if students were in the building. I hope that you have been receiving the emails from Interim Superintendent Folan and the GMS Administration that detail what happened in the building and what's being done to remediate the water damage as well as the plan for the week. If you haven't, you can find links to both communications here: Interim Superintendent's Letter and the GMS Administration Letter.
As a reminder, school for GMS students will be fully remote this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We hope to be back in the building by Thursday morning. Below are some important details to be aware of:
On Monday, we will remotely follow a Day 2, Two-Hour Delay Schedule, which can be found here.
Tuesday - Wednesday we will remotely follow our regular schedule which is linked here.
We will share additional information about logging into Google Meets for each class in a separate email.
If your child needs a Chromebook or a Hot Spot, our technology team will be at the Galvin to meet your needs Monday from 7:30 - 9:30.
Technology support will be available by emailing cpstechhelp@cantonma.org or by calling the main office. We are here to help you and your child!
Breakfast and Lunch will be provided and available for pick up for any family who wishes to take advantage of this option. Pick up will happen at Canton High School between 10:30-11:30. Meal pickup will be outside the cafeteria between Canton High School and the Rodman Building. Pick up will be a drive through; families will not need to enter the building.
Students will be expected to actively participate in online, live instruction for the full school day. This includes keeping their cameras on from the time each class starts until each class ends. This is a change from last year and will be a requirement for all students.
Attendance on these days is important and expected. Attendance will be taken each period. If a student is absent, the GMS administrators or guidance counselors will contact home to check in.
All students who receive IEP-related or multi language learner services will continue to receive their services during this time of remote learning.
If you have any questions, GMS staff will be on-hand and available beginning at 7:30am tomorrow (Monday) morning. Please reach out with any questions or needs you may have.
Thank you,
Mike Green

A special thank you to all the teachers and administration who worked effortlessly supervising the day and events.
A special thank you to Vice Principal Jim Spillane, who has been helping to plan and organize the day since August.
A special thank you to the administrative office, especially Courtney G; for collecting hundreds of pledges.
A special thank you to the CAPT Treasurer, Monique B., who oversaw over 550 envelopes, pledge sheets, donations, and spent many hours at the bank making deposits.
A special thank you to CAPT volunteer Jessica Y, who jumped in everywhere; helping assemble packages, attending and taking pictures of all 3 grades, assembling homework passes, literally whatever was asked she jumped in!!!
As your new CAPT President, I am beyond pleased at how well everything has turned out. Now the focus will be on how to best service the GMS.

Early Dismissal Procedures
Following this procedure will allow us to have your child downstairs, ready for pickup and will get you on your way as quickly as possible. We understand unexpected emergencies arise during the day, but these should be the exception. In those instances, please come to the office door and ring the bell. We will have a form for you to fill out and will call your child down as efficiently as possible. However, please understand this will take some time. Thank you.
