What is Summer Thunder?
Summer Thunder is a fun, mid-season meet with many swimmers who qualify. Swimmers 12 & Under must achieve a qualifying time; swimmers 13 years and older are invited to participate regardless of seed time. For this meet, a time achieved in time trials or any of the first 3 meets this season can be used to achieve the qualifying time. All swimmers must have a time, there are no “NT’s” (No Times) allowed.
This is a NWAL sanctioned meet. Times earned at this meet can be used for end of season invitational meets. Since this is an indoor pool and indoor set up, swimmers often do very well at this meet. Please note, points earned at this meet do not count towards season high point award.
This meet only accepts the first 1100 swimmers entered. Once it hits the 1100 swimmers, all remaining teams are denied. We will do our best to be entered into this meet. In any event we are not accepted, we will return any collected fees.
On the website, under Meets/Invitational Meets you can find the following documents which will help you know if your swimmer has qualified or what times are necessary to qualify:
Summer Thunder Eligibility Report as of May 18th – This report shows all swimmers who currently have met the cutoff times to attend this meet. (Remember, 13 and Up have no required times.
Summer Thunder Meet Announcement – contains all the details about this meet that was released from the host team.
Bonus Events
The 3 event bonus rule does apply. Once a swimmer qualified in 3 individual events they are eligible to enter as many individual events they want. The 10 & Under 50 Free & 11-12 100 free, and 100 IM are the exception. All swimmers in these events must have achieved the time standard for the event in order to enter.
Registration Information
To register for Summer Thunder, please fill out the entries for your swimmer using the Meet Entry Icon next to the Summer Thunder Invitational Meet on the website. Click the checkbox next to the events you would like for your swimmer to swim. (Note: If your swimmer has qualified, there will be a checkbox next to the event for you to enter them in this meet. If there is no checkbox, your swimmer has not qualified for that event.)
If your swimmer has qualified for 3 individual events and would like to swim bonus events, I will need to add those for you. Please request bonus events after you sign them up for the meet using the following form: https://goo.gl/forms/YgNc5Oqst0HJwNRZ2
If you know you are going to attend, please go ahead and put in your entries. You can add to your entries if your swimmer qualifies for additional events during the Fairfield meet. If your swimmer improves their time, their best legal time will be what is used for their entry time. Remember, if your swimmer qualifies in 3 events they can swim any additional events as long as they have a legal time for the event (no NTs) and Time Trials do work for this meet. (The 10 & Under 50 Free & 11-12 100 free, and 100 IM are the exception – you must have qualifying times for these events).
How to Pay Entry Fees
Laura Eshelman (Invitational Chair) will be collecting payments for this invitational meet during the Fairfield meet on Saturday 5/25. A remind message will be sent out that Saturday morning to let you know where she will be set up.
You will be able to add entries on the website until 6 pm Saturday. All payments must be received by 7pm Saturday evening. If you need to pay after the meet on Saturday, email Laura Eshelman (laura@esheltech.com) to get her address so she will know to expect you.
If you need to make other arrangements for payment before the holiday weekend or have questions about this meet, please email Laura Eshelman at laura@esheltech.com
Timers – If you sign up for this meet you may be required to time
We will be required to provide timers at this meet. The number of timers required is based on the number of swimmers we have participating in the meet. In past years, we have 2-3 spots which we broke into 30 minute shifts. If you are signing up your swimmer, you may be required to take a timing shift.

Note from our coaches
Please remember that your swimmer can only practice during their age group practice time. We have divided up the swimmers to maintain the safest swim environment.
We also want your swimmers to get to know their coaches and teammates in their age groups. It's much easier to find your teammates on a relay if you already know who they are from practice.
