From the Principal:
Dear Families,
As we begin to wrap up the year, it's time to celebrate and reflect on the events of the past 10 months. In addition to the hard work of teaching and learning in our classrooms, Midland has had many events and highlights this year, including:
- HOPE Assemblies
- Spirit dress up days
- Walk-a-thon and Food Drive
- Excellent family involvement in Student Led Conferences
- Field Trips
This Thursday we get to celebrate those Midland students who are now graduating from Franklin Pierce High School in our annual GRAD Walk! It's always great to see our former students and hear about how they remember their elementary years.
Next week, we have our 5th grade promotion on the 20th and our last day of school on Tuesday, June 21st!
For your calendar, please note that the first day of school for Grades 1-5 is August 30th! Click on the calendar link below to plan for next school year.
Our students, families, and staff have a lot to celebrate. Thanks for making it a great year!
I hope you and your family have a very safe, healthy, and happy summer!
It's great to be a MUSTANG!
~Dr. Paula Dawson

Some Summertime Ideas for SEL:
- Check in with our child’s feelings. Simply ask “how are you feeling?”. This reminds your children that their emotions matter and it gives them wonderful practice labeling their emotions and discussing them in appropriate ways.
- Start a Summer Journal: Encourage your child to write or draw about their summer experiences and how they felt before, during, and after them. Again, this is practice for labeling emotions and expressing them in a healthy manner.
- Set summer goals. Goal setting builds Self-Efficacy (the belief that you can achieve and be successful) Setting reasonable and age appropriate goals related to school or not, will give children a sense of purpose and planning. They can record and track progress toward their goals and celebrate completion. 😊
- Create a summer chores list. Age appropriate tasks can allow children to practice responsibility and the importance of follow-through.
- Allow opportunities for cooperative play throughout the summer with siblings, friends and family. Both indoor board games and outdoor games that allow for physical activity can foster turn-taking, fairness, patience and teamwork.
- Visit your local library and check out books that are SEL focused. I found a great list at the site linked below.
I sincerely hope that all Midland Mustangs have a joy filled summer and I will see you in August.💖
Are you moving?
Thank you!
