Growing with God...

Dear St. Michael Preschool Families,

“When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.” Matthew 2:10

On behalf of the teachers and staff of St. Michael Preschool, we wish you and your family a very merry Christmas and Happy New Year! May the birth of our Lord Jesus at Christmas bring you renewed hope and much peace, love, and joy. We thank you for your continued support and prayers, and commitment to your child’s Catholic preschool education, especially during these unprecedented times. We look forward to playing, learning, and praying together in 2021 as we continue "growing with God!." May God bless you and keep you always.

Christmas blessings,

Due to the surge of the COVID-19 cases in North Carolina and our country, it is extremely important that we continue to remain vigilant in our efforts to keep our community healthy. Please note that on December 10, 2020, the NC Department of Health and Human Services once again updated its preschool operating guidelines in the Childcare Strong NC Public Health Toolkit. A new requirement is that masks must be worn by children age 5 and older in a preschool or childcare setting.

NCDHHS also says face coverings are encouraged for children two (2) years of age and up to the age of five (5), but not required. If you choose to have your child age 2-4 wear a mask, please consider if they can reliably wear, remove, and handle masks following CDC guidance throughout the school day. You may find the following resources and suggestions helpful:

  • Use this Mask Social Story to help your child understand why masks are important.
  • Read this article for additional ideas on how parents can talk to children about masks.
  • Have Santa bring your child masks or allow them to choose fun masks for themselves.
  • Practice wearing masks for short periods, such as while watching a TV show or playing on an iPad, and slowly increase the time to develop stamina for wearing a mask for a three-hour school day.
Whatever your family’s plans are for the holidays, we ask that you continue to remain cautious and take steps to minimize risk. NCDHHS has released guidance for the winter holidays which can be found HERE. If your family travels during the holidays please err on the side of caution and consider keeping your child home until you are confident your family has not been exposed or presenting with symptoms.

The St. Michael Preschool teachers and staff are very grateful for your continued cooperation in following our health and safety requirements. Be assured of our prayers for good health for you and your family.

Closings and Delays: Our policy is to assess conditions on St. Michael Campus and the local area to determine closings or delays at the preschool. We understand this may not always reflect weather conditions in your area or follow the Wake County School closings or delays, so please use your discretion when bringing your child to school.

Parents will be informed of school closings and delays via our all call communication system through the primary phone, text message, and email provided. If this information needs to be updated at this time, please let the preschool office know.

On delayed openings, Early Arrival and Lunch Programs are canceled and children bring a lunch and attend from 11:00-1:00 pm. This later dismissal time may interfere with younger children’s nap schedules, so again, please use your best judgment in sending your preschooler on these days.

Thank you to all who participated in our Scholastic Book Fair to benefit our Preschool. Your support allowed us to add some great new books to our class libraries! A big Thank You to Lee, Luke, and Tucker's moms for their help, making it a very festive week! And congratulations to Isabella from Clifford Class for winning our Read and Feed Donation Raffle. Now it's time to cozy up next to your Christmas tree and read all those new books!

Please review the updated guidelines before returning to preschool in January. It is the responsibility of the parent/caregiver to understand and follow all protocols.

Exclusionary COVID-19 symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, new loss of taste/smell remain the same.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: ALL ADULTS on St. Michael Campus must wear a face mask when dropping off or picking up their child.

St. Michael Preschool is an important mission of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. We provide a safe and loving environment where the development of the whole child and the joy of learning is nurtured through socialization and play as we grow in our love of Jesus and discover how God is a part of our everyday lives.
