There is a new resource available that is expected to help many families in Oregon with their food budget. It is called the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) Program. Households with children who have been receiving free or reduced school meals will receive a cash benefit even if they are accessing meals from schools during our closure. The benefit is equal to one free lunch and breakfast for each child - $5.70 per normal school day for the months of March, April, May and June. The benefit will be provided in the form of an Oregon Trail Card in the mail. If your student(s) are already eligible for free or reduced lunch, there is no need for you to do anything to receive the card in the mail. For families receiving assistance through SNAP, the benefits will be automatically deposited to their existing EBT accounts in late May. If your students received free or reduced price meals when schools closed, your benefit will be retroactive to March 16. Eligible families will receive the following for each child: $69 for March, $126 for April, $120 in May, and $69 in June.
If your family didn't qualify for free or reduced price meals when school ended, but may now qualify due to income loss, you can still apply for free or reduced priced meals online here. If your family qualifies, then you will also receive this new benefit through an Oregon Trail Card in the mail. For newly eligible families, these funds will NOT be retroactive, but will start at the beginning of the month you are eligible.
The funds provided through the Pandemic EBT program are available to eligible households regardless of their immigration status.
You can find more information here.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email.
I hope you all are doing well!
