Notes from the Principal's Desk
There are no school- or district-wide diagnostics, assessments, or exams slated for the next two months, with the exception of different forms of progress monitoring in your classrooms. These months present an opportunity for intense learning: diving deeper on concepts, pushing critical thinking, holding all students accountable, and mobilizing around what the data--and our observations--say students need in our classrooms right now. These next few months are months of reflection and production.
Some of our students saw a dip in their Q2 grades; how can we help them goal set for Q3? We have enough data available to help illustrate for students their individual strengths and weaknesses. They need to be active participants in the conversation around their growth and performance. This is an essential part of sharing ownership for their learning.
Once the iReady diagnostic concludes, we will have the last large battery of data until June. It's imperative that students understand what this data, as well as other data collected over the school year, indicate about their growth. Chances are many students in your classes share similar area strengths and weaknesses. From this information, we can design specific and strategic interventions during WIN and CORE that help us target skills. This will be our work for the next 8 weeks. All Aboard!

Looking to Boost Your PDPs?
One such reputable company is EdWeb.net: https://home.edweb.net/. EdWeb offers online and pre-recorded trainings all year round, often with multiple sessions occurring each day. They typically last one hour but you only need to attend for a total of 40 minutes to be eligible for the DESE recognized certificate of attendance. Then, you are asked to complete a 4-question quiz for each--and you need to score 3/4 or more to pass. If you sign up but can't make it, they send you a link to the recording.
For those of you with a lengthier car ride to and from work, a 40 minute session could be a productive way to spend the drive. Their inventory includes resources for better integrating EL students, understanding changes in how literacy is taught, building students' profiles in ways that prepare them for college, understanding Dyslexia, developing Scientific Thinking, metacognition and social-emotional learning, reaching neurodiverse students, and more. You need 10 certificates to submit to the state. [That's 10 - 40 minute sessions and 10 passing grades on their short quizzes.]
See Below:
EdWeb.net is authorized by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) to award Professional Development Points (PDPs) to Massachusetts educators. Provider number 2017F0021.
Here are requirements for PD Points:
- You must pass the quiz for your certificate to be accepted.
- You must earn a minimum of 10 PDPs (for 10 edWebinars) in 5 years for them to count.
- edWebinars viewed live or on-demand beginning 1/8/2018 can count for your PDP Points.
