Tag of Honor and Report Cards

The tag of honor ceremony is this Friday, January 23 from 10:05 to 10:45 am in the mini theater. We hope that you will be able to attend this special event recognizing all of our students' achievements this 2nd quarter!

Report cards came home today. Included in the report card sleeve are the results from you child's Cognitive Aptitude test taken this fall. This assessment is just one of the factors that are considered when placing students in the AGP program.

We made history Wednesday!

On Wednesday, our class was the first in the elementary schools to use the QR code on our chromebooks to explore and dig into the Revolutionary War battle zones. Mrs. Reit , one of our district technology experts, came in to introduce this new app on our chrome books to us. She also showed the students how to make their own QR code! As one student said, "We used technology today to time travel back into the Revolutionary War!"

Field Trip to the Koger Center Feb. 10, 2015

Please be sure to return the permission slips and money for the upcoming field trip to the Koger Center as soon as you are able so Mrs. Rushe can finalize our music field trip! Students are encouraged to dress nicely in Sunday best and make this an extra special occasion!

Reading, Writing and so much more!

Here is a summary of what we are doing and what's ahead:

Math- Our Ch. 7 test is Friday and the kids were pretty impressed that they have been doing algebra! The next chapter is fractions, so division facts are crucial. We began a new math program this week called Front Row. Students are loving the program! Students can use it at home too! It has a component for parents, too, so you can see how your child is progressing.

Science- This week we learned about the instruments meteorologists use to predict the weather. We also tried our hand at reading weather maps and making forecasts.

Social Studies- We've studied the events leading up to the Revolutionary War and learned about the battles this week. Next week, we will begin our simulation of the war in the classroom- Patriots vs The Redcoats. We will be keeping a war journal to write about our experiences in battle. The S.S. test will be Jan. 30. There are study cards and a study guide to help students review over the next week.

Writing- We are getting closer to the editing process in our Google Docs on extreme weather writing!

Reading- We are continuing to make connections between "The War with Grandpa" and The Revolutionary War. We also continue to expand our vocabulary through content reading in social studies and science.
