Demonstrations Are A 4-H Tradition

We Challenge You to Give It a Try - Give a 4-H Demonstration

A demonstration shows the step-by-step process for making or building something, presents an example of the way a product should look or taste, illustrates the correct way to do something, or teaches a new skill.

In person and pre-recorded demonstration options available. In-person demonstrations will be held Thursday, June 23 starting at 4 p.m. in the meeting room across from the Extension Office (2nd floor of courthouse). Pre-recorded demonstrations will be accepted no later than 4:30 p.m. on June 20; email recordings to hintz010@umn.edu. Register by logging into mn.4honline.com and click events. Search for Demonstration Day - Douglas County and click register. If you have questions, please call the office at 320-762-3890.

Save the Date - Clothes You Buy Workshop at Hayley & Rae Boutique

Sunday, April 24th, 2-3:30pm

110 Lake Street South

Long Prairie, MN

This workshop is for anyone interested in learning more about clothes you buy project opportunities and all about wardrobe planning and knowledge. Everyone buys clothes and can learn about making smarter purchases. It's fun to show a garment or outfit you've purchased (items can be purchased from thrift or second hand store too; new clothes not necessary).

Learn how to put a binder together to accompany your garment or outfit; includes a photo of you wearing your item(s) and a consumer analysis of the purchase. Examples include work uniform, themed outfit (seasonal, cultural, event-specific), historical period costume, comparisons of brand names or designers, research on career choices in textiles and fashion, costume history, etc.

To register for this free workshop, go to mn.4honline.com and click events and then select Douglas County 4-H Clothes You Buy Workshop. For more information or questions, contact the Extension office.

4-H Dog Training Program Starts in April, Here's What You Need to Know

Dogs are often considered man’s best friend. Are you 3rd grade and up and looking for an opportunity to gain knowledge on the fundaments of showing your dog with hands-on experience? Build a greater bond between you, the handler, and your dog?

Douglas County 4-H is lucky to have a dedicated team of 4-H volunteers that offer a dog training program that kicks off around April/May and runs through early August. If interested, now is the time to log into mn.4honline.com and make sure dog is listed as a project interested for your 4-H’er(s) or call the office at (320) 762-3890 and let us know you are interested. By doing this, you will be included in future mailings on the dog training program and registration links once they become available. If you don’t have a dog, remember there is always the option to lease a dog from another family or friend.

April and May practices will be held at the Alexandria home of a veteran dog project member and the remaining practices will be held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Cost is $ 15 per member. Now is also a good time to print off dog id paperwork to complete and have your veterinarian sign so you are ready to train. The state dog id deadline is May 15 but because training begins prior to May 15 this form needs to be completed and uploaded to mn.4honline.com or turned into Extension office prior to attending a dog training session.

If you have any questions, please contact the office at 320-762-3890 or email Jackie Kokett, Extension Educator, at jkokett@umn.edu.

Douglas County Rabbit Fun Show Cancelled for 2022

There was not enough interested 4-H volunteers or club volunteer interest to hold the rabbit fun show this year in Brandon. Please keep this educational event and fundraiser opportunity in mind for 2023 so we can hopefully bring it back after taking a few years off.
