International Artist Presents at N. B. Cook Elementary
Mr. Suwarno was raised in a family with a history of many generations of Indonesian Wayang Kulit shadow puppet-makers. He was the featured artist at the 2013 Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival on Nov. 1, 2 & 3 at Seville Square. N. B. Cook students enjoyed learning about this traditional puppet making art from across the globe and had many questions about his techniques and art materials. Mr. Suwarno demonstrated his detailed puppet-making techniques using traditional water buffalo hide & horns, while using water-based paints and piercing tools. At the end of the presentation, all students were invited by Mr. Suwarno to observe and touch his beautifully crafted shadow puppets closely.

Lipscomb Students Create Masks
We have been creating masks for the last few weeks. We were able to choose our materials. Part of our class chose clay and part chose papier mache’. Our goal was to make the mask part human and part animal. My mask is part peacock and fox, too. Others were part bear, bull, spiders, cats, fish, owl, moose, and many other animals.
Five have been selected to display at Artel Gallery in January. We are very excited to exhibit our masks in an adult gallery! Check it out January 7 – 17.
